Can I use any plastic liner for GB or are there things I must stay away from.
What are the minimum thickness (microns) of liner that you would sugest.

people around here have used 'builders plastic' before. It is the heavy duty black plastic that they use for concreting. It is usually 200um. You could not use anything below 100um with risk.

basically thickness = resistance to being holed/punctured. So thicker is better.
Else consider having two layers because fixing a leak will be a PITA.

the main issue will be your media. If it is round clay balls then the risk is pretty low. If it is heave angular gravel/rock then you may have issues and would need to be very careful.

you can use swimming pool liner and pond liner but those tend to be pretty expensive compared to black builders plastic.

im quite glad i went with an expensive pond liner, it allowed me to buy cheaper medium which at the volume of the bed i had saved me money, also couldnt get the liner right into the corner and is unsupported - couldnt get away with that with cheap liner.
