Hiya John, you can write on other peoples threads the same way as you do yours and when you quote you can add your comment outside the [/quote] to keep it separate.

When you ask about the best water for goldies to satisfy bacteria can you elaborate?
What fish food do you use?

A bit of Googling seems to indicate that the USDA aren't banning aquaponics (pretty sure they couldn't if they tried) but are considering banning aquaponic producers from using 'organic' to describe their systems or getting organic certifications. :dontknow: Presumably because growbeds and tanks don't seem particularly natural no matter what you're putting in them. There's at least one petition against it.

It must be the big agra lobby trying to make that imposition. Really hard for a small local farm to get an organic certification because you need to have a pesticide free perimeter. Easier for an aquaponic set up to get certified especially if it's under a greenhouse. The "big boys" don't like that the little guys would be able to compete with them.

That's like what I am building at the moment as funds become available
mine will have a wicking bed but I am going to solar heat the soil
The water will come from the water that's cleaned from the swirl filter
