Is there a problem of having both blue and mozambique tilapia in the same tank?

Very cool. I live out in East TN now, Grainger County. However, I did my undergrad at MTSU, and Lived in Murfreesboro for several years. There is another member or two on here that are from out your way.

I don't know for sure, but I think they can cross. So you would probably lose the benefits of either of them as they become cross bred, may not get good results (or might get a better fish too if you know genetics and how to choose what to cross breed, but I just picture a tank full of guppies that have nice bright coloring, a few generations of mixing and they turn out to have no coloring... so I'd hate to get a bunch of tilapia crosses that give the worst of each species).

You'd probably want to be set up to grade your offspring and only keep the best of the best to further propagate... I guess assuming you plan to breed them... if not then it's probably not a big deal, although I think Mozambique might be more aggressive than blues....

I wouldn't worry about it unless you plan to breed. If you want to breed separate your breeding sets into a different tank where you can capture the fry and raise them separately.

Also, if your water temp will get below 65 you may start to lose the mozambiques, they are not cold tolerant.
