probably even worse if you try and weld the joint without removing the zinc first. both for the ailment and the weld! ;)

well, the aquaplate is a barrier between the tank and the water.

LOL, so two pages on i think that data shows the same thing as last time........probably ok with a neutral or slightly basic ph, but questionable for PH sub 7

Yeah, I've had zinc ague or whatever. I did a whole pile of gal welding, and thought I'd got a virus. then my professional welding neighbour laughed and told me about the ague...

When welding, have a small house fan blowing across the area (it worked for me)

The zinc burns off before you get to the welding temp. But you should grind anyway to remove oxide etc.

I do it for arc and mig, I find it easier if the smoke/fumes are pushed away whilst welding ( Then I go and have a ciggie :? )

Lead used to be used as water pipe as well BK, but we learnt from that over time... Lead's symbol Pb is an abbreviation of its Latin name plumbum. The English word "plumbing" also derives from this Latin root. Now no one would ever consider using it for plumbing..
