So do you have to manually space out leeks or can you plant the seedling patch clump like chives?

Looks like Ryan just broadcast the seed and then thinned his in this setup LazyK. I start mine and then transplant but I've never tried them in a clump.

I found a small pot of seedlings at the damaged stock aisle fo 25cents so picked them up. Doesn't look much different Than chives at this point. I will pull them apart a bit and add them in small bunches. Always fun to try new things. Thanks Scotty.

Hi Ryan.
Impressive.
This may be another one of those things that separate us but generally here in the UK the white part of the leek is prized.
So forgive me if you already know that.
Most are sold here with 20 to 30 cms of white and a few cms of chopped green at the top.
Grown in dirt it can become,’laminated’ into the body with excessive waste.
So it would seem that AP would get over that problem.
Leeks grown for show and exhibition here are cultivated in cardboard tubes.
These vary depending on wether the grower is trying to achieve girth or length. Very labour intensive.
Baby vegetables are becoming a big thing here. Many high end restaurants featuring dishes with baby leeks in particular. There may be a market for thinnings.
Plastic sleeves is another obvious solution to increasing the white area
Hot leek and potato soup in the winter.
Cold Vichyssoise in the summer.
All good.

I love leeks, but I can't eat the white bits, so what I want is the complete opposite of what you get in the shops :dontknow: I'm looking forward to growing my own and letting them go as green as they want!

Zman, that little looped seedling in the middle of your pic looks like a leek that hasn't pulled its tip out of the seed casing and stood up yet.
