Reminded me a bit of this while it was still on the fish https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argulus_foliaceus - I havne't looked to see how it's treated but maybe treating the fish the same way would work? I suppose this could be the only one in the tank, maybe there has to be more than one to breed?

Yikes! Fish louse! Grotesque indeed

Dawn is hanging out very sadly under the water pump. Just sitting there.

I'll add some salt today. Should be about 7 tsp for a tank this size right? 16L at 2gm per liter is 36gms which equates to roughly 7tsps....

Added salt along with a water top up as close to tank temp as possible.

Unfortunately my water conditioner breaks chloramines down to ammonia and does not contain an ammonia neutraliser.

So I feel like it's possible that I get an ammonia spike every time I do a WC.

Kind of counter-productive so I might go purchase a water conditioner that also neutralises ammonia.

Water test result from this morning:

pH is 7.6
Ammonia is 0.5ppm
Nitrite is 0ppm
Nitrates are about 5-10ppm

I also bought Dawn a live aquarium plant yesterday.

Pet shop swore to me they raise their plants in a quarantine tank with no fauna - so it should be "clean"

16 X 2 = 32g, but 36g will be ok, 36/16 = 2.25ppt

I would have put it in as soon as the problem appeared, salt is a general tonic for most fish.

Can't you use some rainwater for top ups, rather than tap water with chemicals, plus more chemicals to treat it?

I don't even have a big bucket to store rainwater at the moment.

The only viable option without chemicals would be top ups from the outdoor AP system

Well Dawn is gone.

I ended up giving her to a guy who bought a big tank for his daughter. I was upfront about Dawns health issues but I think he just wanted a free fish. :shifty:

Hope Dawn lives.

So I've decided to get my kids some cold water platys so I don't have to upsize the tank.

Disinfecting with white vinegar.

I hear that. It is harder with pets and livestock all mixed up with the family. My wife when asked if we name our trout, " That one is Tuesday's dinner... "
