I pour diluted molasses into the worm farm. The beneficial bacteria thrive on it and the worms eat the bacteria. Bacteria like simple sugars whereas yeasts like more complex foods, like seaweed/kelp.

Makes sense. The Really Smart Guy on Janet's thread recommended sugar in the iron chelating process. But then it was all over my head.

i often pour wines that aren't to my taste into the "pre worm farm" scrap bin in the hope that it adds yeasts and bacs to the decomposing plant material to a) help "soften it up" for the worms
b) breed bacs and fungs for the wormies to feast on.

Forest - I'd put full grown ones in so they start to breed in the bed. As for how many to put in - depends upon how quickly you want them to establish and also how much organic matter you have in there to feed them. I reckon I only put 10-15 in, but these days no matter where I dig I find worms and/or worm capsules.

Here are this week's photos. The first one being the tomatoes seven weeks after planting. They are holding about 6 small tomatoes and lots of flowers.

This is the asparagus. You can barely see it but it's at the front on the left side - if you can see a tiny stick poking up, that's it.
