Hi Guys i was hoping you can help me with selecting a pump.

I have 4 Grape solar 250w panels i also have (14) 475 gal water tanks in parallel i would like a pump to utilise these panels. any idea what type or who to ask?

Oh yeah and i would like to hook up directly from panels to pump.

Four 250W panels.. 1000W capacity.. No mention of battery etc..

A typical pump might draw 100W.. and an air pump another 100W..
So that leaves a considerable difference.. but that peak of 1000W would be around Solar noon..

Are you at home.with normal. Grid Power ..

I heard of a naughty person who got a small grid solar inverter.. Feed that power into the home power circuit and the result will be that you will use all of that available.power, but not necessarily in the AP system..

If you seek to POWER the whole AP setup, from solar, then you are up for considerable expense.buying batteries and charge-controllers..

Hi BuiDoi I am seeking to power the whole system from solar I already have some parts I hope I don't have to spend too much money on this thanks for taking sometime to look into my problem. It doesn't look like you have enough battery capacity for 1000W of PV panels. What capacity are they?

If you want to run your system overnight or in cloudy periods of weather, you will need much more battery capacity, or a generator.

Running a pump directly from panels is not the ideal way to do it in AP, otherwise you could have extended periods of no pumping, which wont be good for the fish.

I have to check the batteries tomorrow for you. I was thinking that I could get away with a smaller batteries because I live in Barbados. I have 3 options. 1 get enough battery 2 add wind because that is a more 24/7 power generation and 3 get a grid tied pump attached to a flow sencer of some sort to even out the flow.

Why does living in Barbados mean you can use a smaller battery?

Unless it is unpleasantly windy for a large proportion of the time and quite cloudy, solar will deliver more energy than wind for your dollar spent, for small sclae systems.

Well i meant to say Barbados gets a lot of sun because we are in the caribbean.

I am looking at wind as a supplemental source to the solar because more often than not it seems like the conditions that limit the sunshine are the same that increases the wind so when solar is low wind will be high, i would also have power generation at night.

I guess from what your saying that $$$$ spent on using wind power at night and a smaller battery would not be as good as the same $$$ spent on panels and more battery.

I am currently reading up on solar systems and how to calculate the battery needed. heading to the site now i will get the info on the batters i have and get back to you.
