Which way are you trying to turn the lock nut?

Indeed.. if unsure... activate it and see which way it spins.. the nut should go the opposite..

Just an off cut of small tube.. both ends are chamfered or beveled, ie. ground at say 45deg..
Tape is on one end.. I tape over the chamfer.. Just what I do.. :dontknow:
The advantage is that when you push the parts together, the teflon tape gets "Pulled" into the union..
Un-Chamfered, the tape may just push over the tube and not end up INSIDE the union..

Others have done something similar to rainwater tanks. So I reckon it will be ok with the amount of ribbing you have left.

Plumbing question!

Planning on running 25mm hose from the 6500lph pump to the FTs then the SLO will be 50mm pipe.

Is this ok or will I run into issues having the water in and water out pipes in different sizes?

Hiya Sophia, your pipe sizes sound about right you will also need valves on the inflow to the tank to adjust if necessary. Remember to keep the top of the tee on the slo below the top of the tank to act as an overflow.
How many litres is that tank you've just cut?

Hey Skeggley! Thanks for replying! The new tank should hold 1,500 liters if I fill it to 10cm from the top.

So both tanks will hold 1,500 liters.

Gee I think I would go one size bigger on each. 32mm hose for the pump and 65mm DWV for the SLO. I have 40mm on a 7,000 lph pump and 25mm on a 4,000 lph pump so your about in the middle of that. And I was thinking to upgrade the 25mm to 32mm on the 4,000 lph to get better efficiency / more water flow.
On my smaller system I have a 50mm DWV SLO and it barely keeps up, wish I had of made it 65mm DWV.

..
Please take into account.actually catching fish.. it is SOOOOOOO EASY, putting them in,, and a real pain getting them out..
RENDANG knows only too well..

That tank.WILL pose difficulties, in trying to work through the relatively small.holes.in a relatively.deep tank..

Try to develop a SLO that is removable, so the little buggars can't play cat and mouse around devices and structures..
You should try to end up with a tank, COMPLETELY empty of pipes and fittings, when needed..

Barrel-Unions become.cheap when you are trying to catch the last fish..
I spent near 30mins yesterday, catching the LAST one

So I would make the SLO output "between" the two holes, under the rib, so you can use two hands through the two holes..

50mm pipe can flow a deal of water, if you have it lower and pump higher..
Ie.. don't have the SLO thru-tank point at the highest location.. eg.. put it say 100mm below where you think you want the high water mark.. this means that if you over fill, the pressure head will be so great, the water will be busting to get out..
Naturally.. under fault conditions, 100mm drains from the tank.. and who gives a shrimp about that.. chances are, it will give you more room to move during maintenance.

OMFG - I just watched this video:

A WINDOW IN A CYLINDRICAL TANK! Hooray! Had no idea this was possible! I so want to do it for our kids!

Any reason why I should not do it? (Obviously it would be done on the smooth wall tank and not the corrugated one.
