What is the best way / format to build or create an aquaponics system in?

Really just depends on where you're building it and what you have to work with .

One of the things I love about AP is your system is only limited by your imagination. Well....not entirely correct obviously temps and which fish to go with, media based or DWC (or both!!!).

If you are seeking genuine advice from people on here who are far more experienced than me I would recommend posting some pics of your available space, your regional temps, fish you want, what you expect from your syste, (are you wanting to have a small system to compliment a soil patch or are you wanting to feed XYZ amount of ppl......

More details will get you a more detailed response I'm sure.

Oh....and welcome to BYAP! I'm 12months into my AP adventure and BYAP has some terrific resources. I spend hours looking at members system builds to help me gain ideas for my own setup

think of a way to run water from your fishtank, through rocks (check rocks for PH with vinegar, dont want bubbles) have that water go back to the fish tank, place that container of rocks in the sun so plants will grow, you now have an aquaponics system.

I think you have to start by defining what you want out of your system.

There are many posters with an AGP system (Aquarium a Goldfish and a Plant! ...cause we love acronyms here). That's a "system".

Are you looking to just to play or to feed yourself or others?
How much time do you have?
What are you willing to spend?

All sorts of directions you can go...!

That covers everything from a single IBC tote to complex barrel and IBC systems.

then decide how much space, effort and money you want to throw at AP......

then you can get some specific advice.
