Trying out Aquaponics for the first time so I built a mini test system.

Currently my water readings are:

Ammonia: .25ppm
Nitrite: 1-2ppm
Nitrate: 5ppm
PH: 7.8

Some plants are thriving like my tomatoes along the back of the growbed (these were all planted 30 days ago approx 10/13)

Tomatoes:

Tomatoes (left) Sweet Peppers (right) Onion (right corner):

Garlic:

However, some of my plants are not doing well and don't seem to be growing much at all

Jalepeno Pepper:

Eggplant:

So I guess I have a couple questions:

a) Are my goldfish going to get nitrite poisoning with the levels so high?
b) Is the high PH causing my peppers/eggplant not to grow and do I need to drop it from 7.8 closer to 7?

Any advice is welcomed, I just wanted to make sure my system is doing the best it can

Sorry about the img size. I tried to size them with the BBCode but they remained a fixed size for me ><.

The growbed is outside, they get about 5-6 hours of direct sunlight a day. Being in south florida with how hot it can be I figured that was enough.

I'm in the process of getting the PH down to 6.8-7.0 range. I think the high PH could be the cause of alot of the plant growth problem.

Also, as an update my Nitrite test is neon purple! Hoping the fish dont die
