Wow, what a privilege to play on the WACA. Well done to your son.

I checked out the game report on CricInfo and saw the news on Starc's delivery. Astounding speed. I always wonder what it would be like to face someone like that. I never really played cricket and never faced a fast bowler. I always wonder if I would even have time to take a swing or if I would still be winding up when the ball is in the keeper's gloves already.

System sounds good too.

Martin.

I have found that as I get older, I can actually play the fast balls better, as now I don't try to smash the cover off every ball. Its the ones that move in the air at the same time that get me. Play straight, get your head over the ball, keep the bat close to the pads. Works for most deliveries. Make the wicket keeper and slips fielders do their job by keeping it off the timbers. Never been bowled, never been lbw!! (Never got a 50 either though)

So then you get caught behind or maybe they're all run outs? A bit slow between the wickets maybe? :D

Pretty good on run outs, I've got a loud voice and let the other bloke know my intentions, and maybe know I'm not as fast as I used to be.

Mostly the ball goes fizzing past, I hear a chink as the ball gets the edge and then hear it slap into the wicket keepers hands, and I say shit that was fast and trudge off the field, head hung in shame.

Oh yeah, forgot to say, never out for a duck!

Lol.
I''m 42 and at some point in the next 20 years I will have to come to terms with the fact that I might never play for the Springboks! :(

Did you get a photo of this mythical lettuce tree or is it out there with the Unicorns and other mythical creatures like Australian Bledisloe Cup winning rugby players? (Sorry I couldn't resist, living here in New Zealand it has become clear what a big deal that cup is to them.) :D

At some point in time we need to recognize when some achievements may never be met. Some though can still happen at a ripe old age. I still have the dream of sailing a Sydney to Hobart.

The lettuce tree is shown at half height, on the previous page. I should pull it out of the compost and have him beside it for a photo.

A sailing dream can definitely be realised, that is a cool one.

Okay I went back and checked the lettuce plant, very impressive if it double in size.

I had three asparagus plants appear in my veggie patch and they were perfect, kinda plate size but because there were only three I left them. About 4 days later they had literally quadrupled in height and bolted. I couldn't believe the difference in height in 4 days I didn't think it was possible for a plant to grow that much in that time. They about 30cm long and 4 days later about waist height to me. Really amazing.

Tried to catch a feed on the weekend, but the water level was too high, and I only managed to catch a few medium sized fish (30cm). Will wait for the water level to drop a bit and have another go.

Tried dropping a hook in but they were too scared, will wait a week, and have a go with pellets on a hook.

Toms still producing madly. Have over 2 kgs in the fridge now. Time to do up some more sauce.

What sauce Doc? You making your own tomato sauce? That would be pretty cool. Some photos wouldn't hurt either.

Yep, No photos it never happened.

Now got over 2 kg of toms. Gotta make some sauce before they start going off.

Do peeps leave their skins on and seeds in? I have in the past, but SWMO wants them gone. Sounds like hard work. Was hoping to have an AFD but that may not happen if cooking up sauce.

Pulled out the chives shrub on the weekend. Boy that was a stinking mass underneath. Replanted a few shoots, so will need to redo in a few months again.

Photos tomorrow.

Had a goanna (well over 1m long) and a skink (0.5m long) have a fight for territory outside my office last week.

Ha, ha. Have you seen the damage those things can do to a man? They have claws that are very savage.
