Rob's making it tough, I'm not sure I should touch this with a ten foot pole

It gets lighter because the bacteria reflect more light than the media. I should also mention that different bacterial colonies are different colors so the color might not be the same for everyone.

Probably just need to keep a small sample of the original material so you can compare. It will get a little more or less of something depending on the starting point. :)

As to the pigs, Unless you are planning on breeding them, not sure you really need to spend the extra money for the registered heritage breeds. There is a neighbor farm down the way from us where we got some small pigs and grew them out for a season. I expect a big part of how the meat tastes is going to be related more to their diet/age/processing than it is to the breed. We still haven't finished off all the pork from the last pigs we raised.

What if you have black biomedia?

I've never seen black biomedia. It would seem to be at a disadvantage.

I do plan on breeding them. They are a threatened species of pigs that I'm looking at. They are supposed to have a very well marbled, extremely tasty and sought after meat. I have spoke with a few local chefs, and they are interested in some of the pork. I've located 2 sows, and am looking for a boar. May have to go out of state to get him??

Can't wait to watch Rousey beat up on Holly Holm this weekend. If any of my Aussie friends haven't seen this dynamic athlete perform, she's worth the $$$. Holm is good with her hands, and will not go to the ground with Rhonda, the fight may get into the second round. Big maybe.

Coach the fight has been well promoted here and it will interesting to see what sort of crowd they get, the stadium has a capacity of 53,359.

There's been a bit controversy about the fight because cage fighting had been banned by the former Labor government in Victoria since 2010 and the new Labor Premier as an election commitment has allowed it to go ahead.

I saw the 1 TV interview. She a gutsy lady. The guy was trying to goad her, and she was having one of it. Shot him down.

Don't know why they would ban MMA, much safer record then boxing, and much more fun to watch.
I think it's awesome that a woman is the biggest draw in the sport. Having coached (and fathered) female athletes, I enjoy when the get their just acknowledgments. Our women's national soccer team is the best in the world again, and our men, well they are improving.lol

Wow! What a fight. Should have bet a grand on Holms.lol

A Southpaw and a striker, bad combo for Ms. Rousey. Looking forward to the rematch.

The fight set attendance records, and set up Holms for a big pay day. Well done ladies.

Got colder here, Upper 50's friday night. back up in the mid/upper 80's in a few days. Still leaving the poly off the GH for now.

Nitrites are still swinging in the RAS. Whitefly are still a problem on the eggplant in the AP. Wood Vinegar doesn't seem to be helping now. I've increased rate to 1/200 with not muck luck. No problem with any other pests, just the damn whitefly. I have the Encarsia wasps present and they are working on some of the nymphs, but don't seem to be able to keep up.

Have you tried neem oil for the white flies? Or is that going to be a problem with your fish?

Yeah, azadirachtin has worked in the past, but it's not as friendly to the fish or biologicals. I had to apply some this AM.
