Been a bit busy to get on the Forum lately. Good to see the trout appreciation thread active. Since the weather cooled off a bit after the scary heatwave in October, we have slowed down on trout for dinner every weekend. Thought it would be nice to have one tonight after a break.

I was rather surprised to pull this one out in the 'lucky dip'. 40 cm and just shy of 1 kg :headbang:

I think there are now only 4 or 5 left of the original 25 yearlings I got in March. They have certainly put on some size from my first ever harvest at the start of this thread :thumbright:

Its been hot the past 2 days, but the nights have cooled off. Cool change here tonight, with max temps of low 20s for the next 3 days. So they should last a bit longer...

That's a monster Joc, I have been enjoying my first harvest too, trout went in late April and the biggest so far has been 700g @37cm yours look a lot fatter.

This year i used the Aquatec floating pellet food and a small daily feed of my DIY food. The colour looks good on the fillets. More armed on info next year I will try with skretting and a portion of the DIY daily.

Been loving the AP system so trouble free fish, crustaceans and veg all in one very impressed with the idea.

So far had trout battered, crumbed ( very nice), grilled, and grilled pasted with pesto (very nice too). I also made a cold smoker and really love the results best of the cold smoke trout so far was added into a creamy pasta dish.

Just loving it :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Great fish people, well done. Nice work with those fillets too oceanarium. We much prefer the pin boned, smoked fillets to the whole fish. We've just had the last of last years trout from the freezer and with the temps rising here, it's nearly time to clear the tank.

After nearly 12months from discovering aquaponics, starting the system and eating many vegies, we have had our VERY first fish last night and it was super delish.

Trout were in since April/May, the larger of these 2 was 600gm after processing so not that big. Have been battling water temps this past week so I think we'll see more of this for dinner.

I'd say 600gms after processing is pretty darn good, stunning in fact. :thumbleft:
Well done

Oh really...? Good to know, it's been about 30 years since I went fishing for well.... Anything! Used to do alot of trout fishing as a kid but never bothered weighing them so I have no idea what constitutes a good sized fish after 6months or so. This is also my first attempt at keeping fish so it's been a ride that's for sure. I have a few larger ones (few less now lol) but the rest still seem a bit small...

Here's the first of our 2015 trout, we've emptied the freezer with a trout here and there so time to clear the tank. With rumours of a long hot summer we're not going to try and over summer any.
Yep this ones a stumpy, slowest fish in the tank.
Probably the smallest and definitely the shortest but still a fair weight. :)
