We added on 900 Sq ft in 2000, and it's getting time for some updates. new flooring in living room earlier in the year, and now the bathroom. Laying tile today. I'll try and post some pics when we get done.

Tiling, drywall, work, and a near disaster in the AP today. Had some minor weather, but also some power outages in area. The job we were at lost power, we had a few lights out on the way to get materials, and I was a bit concerned about the RAS and AP. Came home after shoveling about 7 tons of wet dirt(mud?) and the power was on to house but off to AP. The tilapia were at the top gulping air. I couldn't figure out why the pump and air wasn't back on. The digital timer had reset to 'OFF" and wasn't letting anything run. The battery back up air wasn't working...or had run out of battery...not sure yet. Finally figured out what the heck was going on and got everything back running.

I'm glad that I'm using tilapia, I don't think any other species can gulp air like they can. Hopefully everything will be OK.

Seems like the RAS max feed is about 5 lbs a day currently. Any more then that, and the nitrites will jump. None of the new K1 in the new MBBR have colonized yet. Hopefully, once that happens, I'll be able to add a bit more feed. I'm thinking around 8-10 lbs per day would be about right. Currently, feeding about 1.25 lbs 4 times per day, but no tanks to satiation. I think another .5-.75 per feeding would be better.

Possibly my next foray into self sustainability? Looking at a Heritage breed...maybe these?
They're the second best conversion factor animal next to rabbits. But, I can't get much bacon from a rabbit. :D

As the colony becomes established the color of the media changes and it's not as white.
