the expense doesnt matter, its knowing what it actually costs that matters.

I see in our area, I could by a wood hive for around $150-200.00, I could get 3-4 hives for the cost of what i paid for the Flow Hive. That said, I don't regret the purchase, as I don't plan on it for a business.

It's still also a very new product. Once the cost of tooling comes down through quantity, and the systems are all in place, I'm sure they can make them a bit more competitive.

However, after watching the ABC program on him, I'm paranoid about his ability to run a multi million dollar business when things like hard decisions need to be made. Time will tell.

I don't know him, but I can tell you with that much revenue, you could hire a very good manager. :D

From the sounds of the video, he was trying to do a lot of it himself, with what seems like no experience in managing people. But there were people he'd hired, which looked like mostly friends (I could be wrong there).

As somebody who manages people, I'd never hire a friend, because if you have to pull them into line, or something like that, it gets difficult.

Yep, friends & family don't usually make good employees. I've never had luck with either.

but does the Flow-Hive, not only consist of two or three internal units.. and thus you need the standard hive anyway..

as for the guys concerned, do look at WHERE that is all happening.. :funny1: NIMBIN, is it not.. :drunken:

I suspect that few involved are accustomed to WORK, period..

and by that I mean serious work (40Hrs a week plus )as distinct from doing what is necessary,
and, I seriously commend the inventor, because he built what we want and did not know we could have..
hence that astounding Crowd-Funding success.. Mind-Boggling

NIMBIN - for those unfamiliar, is where drop outs congregated, for an alternative life style
Probably where there were no jobs and thus easy to apply for unemployment benefits..

and these folk seem like people you would like as neighbours
..
.

it clearly says in the article posted that he isnt used to working or managing people, dont know why all the "wild" accusations when you can just look it up.

also, being a stoner hippy living in nimbim doesnt stop someone achieving more than you ever will in your lifetime, remember that next time you make comments.

remember, a lot has come from "bums" and hippies tinkering in their garage, almost nothing has come from people who wear suits.....

I made my hives out of old pallets. No more than $200 all up for 3 big hives (i.e. 12 supers in total). Got at least 70kg of honey last year from the hives.

I hope the flow hive becomes a success(not only a crowdfunding success) but i am a skeptic.

That's awesome Gabe. Maybe if the beekeeping does well, I'll try my hand at making a hive. I have access to lots of pallets too.

If you do - make sure that they are non treated pallets.
