If you can turn all that into an Android app, I'll be really impressed!

It'd be very handy to have something not working, and it'll give me an alert onto my phone.

That's exactly what grovestreams does in my current system. If anything fails or drifts out of the safety window, it sends me an sms and/or email. When you get your setup going, I'll show you how to configure it.

Wow Chiumanfu, that's special. I'm mid-way through the free-style build, I'm thinking maybe I should hang off and wait for the PCB build version, what do you think?

The new GUI version is a totally new build and the code probably won't be completed for a really long time. I'm even considering making it a commercial product if there is enough interest.

If you can make it user friendly, i.e. Plug and play, it'd probably work out well.

How much soldering is required with the PCB?

Okay, I'll forge ahead with the current version then. If you commercialise will you continue with an open source style? It would be a bit sad if you went fully closed, but your prerogative of course.

Cheers

Here's a sneak peak at my latest project. 7" touch screen and Arduino Due. I'm structuring the code so that you can configure it to any system through menus rather than custom tailored to my system topology. Release date?... don't hold your breath.

You can always start selling to help supplement your income.
Give 5 options?
Bare PCB (no components) Maybe Through hole instead of smd?
Solder Kit (PCB and components) +$$ Arduino Mega W/Ethernet shield option
Assembled (PCB with soldered components) +$$ Arduino Mega W/Ethernet shield option
Advanced Solder Kit (PCB, components, Arduino Mega W/Ethernet shield and basic sensors)
Kit Assembled (PCB with soldered components, Arduino Mega and basic sensors)

I'm sure you could offer something like that and would benefit from those who would interested in buying it.

I like the idea, but you'll get twits like me that are trying to be cheap, and buy the solder kit, thinking it won't be too hard, I burn something out soldering it in. And send it back because it doesn't work.

There is quite a bit of soldering. I can solder it up if you don't have the tools. I have enough components for maybe 5 boards.

It will definitely be open source software just as this version 1 is.

Chiumanfu,
Question. And this may have been asked but given the extreme length of this topic, Im going to ask again. The DS18B20 probes... do they come with different I2C addresses? Or, did you have to change them somehow?

Chiu,

Thanks very much for the BOM. I'll be ordering the parts from Digikey this week.

Best,

Luc

Adam,

If I may jump in, each DS18B20 probe ships with an unique ID. You will need to get the addresses for yours probes and manually change the values in Chiu's code or it won't work. It's relatively simple. This is a pretty good tutorial:

Best,

Luc

I understand the addressing. Just didn't know if each comes with a unique a dress or not but you answered that. Thanks!

I had been anticipating this answer before I purchase the probes.

In the Power Board BOM, you don't need to buy this part. They are just the studs I used to connect the battery and inverter through the project box wall.
2,36-4109-ND,POST BINDNG STD DL HEAD 10/32,$15.22000

Any mods reading this, how can I edit my old posts in this thread?

As a side note, the waterproof DS18B20 sensors from eBay have a high failure rate. I've had two fail in my system after about a year. Make sure to buy spares. Good thing they are cheap.

When I get a chance, I'm going to dissect one and see exactly how they fail and maybe how to make them more waterproof.
