Just foil wrapped the fish. Makes it easy everyone can just do their own.

came home to no power the other night. Western power website said it should be returned by 2330. Come 2300 i went and asked the guys working and was told it would be another 8 hours!! Raced to get ice and began harvesting the trout and gutting by a candle and a small led torch. I felt for sure i would lose all my silvers, koi and goldfish. Finally made it bed @ 0100, after a nice cold shower -.-

Got up for work @ 0530, thankfully no dead fish! And the power came on @ 0540- some 11-12 hours without power!
Arrived home today to discover 3 trout survived the harvest, and the Night!!! The dream of 1kg trout lives on. Harvested 18, quite a range on size, unlike previous posts these weights are cleaned/gutted as i had no time last night.

Largest 640 grams. Smallest 373. Average of 520.

Im surprised the others made it through. Did you have any back up aeration at all mate? Either way, 12 hours is a long time. They are a good eating size fish anyways.

Yeah im not sad about harvesting, just having to rush it!!. There was no air in the trout tank. Threw the small battery backup in from BYAP to the koi/silver tank but in 2-2500l there was minimal movement. I have been cycling K1 media inside 2 washing baskets in that tank and wonder if that helped slightly?- wasnt "moving" but there is 50 something liters between the two baskets

Looks like it's time to invest in a backup system. Could be as simple as having an inverter and deepcycle battery ready to go or a maybe buy a small generator for a couple hundred bucks.

My system is a 10 watt solar panel solar panel

With a simple charge controller
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NAR1NM4

A small deep cycle battery

and a small inverter
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F4TBW6S

Less than $200 for complete peace of mind. It requires no maintenance, no electricity costs, and automatically switches on a power fail and runs my Laguna Max-Flo 2400gph pump for more than 12 hours. Probably a few hours longer but that's as far as I've tested it.
