Thanks Sam. Maybe I need the top on for humidity on the rockwool. The texture is a bit weird on the spinach, but I like the newer leaves in a salad, and am going to try a stir-fry with some peppers & onions and maybe shrimp and curry??
It does indeed grow well...maybe too well. Like Kudzu. :D

Fed this AM, and no feed until tonight. Nitrites were down to almost .25 when I got back from work. Fed about 12-14 oz. and will check in the AM.

You must really be getting over doing nitrite tests. But at least it's kept them all alive.

Yes, I've been doing on average 12-15 per day for the last 6-8 weeks. Getting REALLY good at it.lol
Gone through 3 bottles of testing solution. I have lots of extra test tubes now.

Maybe this thing is finally cycling with the new media, and I can get back to twice weekly testing. The large koi were smashing the food today. That was satisfying to see. Some are close to 2 lbs- Ryan hooked me up. :D

Seems weird but the tilapia in the juvi tanks seem to be growing faster then the ones in the large (1000 plus gallon) grow out tanks. I wonder if not being able to swim as much causes them to grow faster. Like penning a hog.

It was down to almost .25! I missed the mid day feeding though. Still, as long as it's not jacked up again this am, i'm feeling pretty good.

Great to see things getting there Chris! Just be glad you didn't try to do this in the winter with colder water temps :)
Keep slowly increasing feed while continuing to add bicarbonate, the cell mass is obviously growing as seen from your testing regiment.

And that's why you test... Where many others may have had a fish kill at some point, you knew what was going on in the water chemistry and were able to adjust your regiment accordingly. Good job!

Thanks guys.

Burp. After appx 6 hours, nitrites were still around .5. I fed lightly and dosed again. Hoping that after 11 hours, the next check will find it down closer to .25. PH is around .1-.2 lower coming out of mbbr...a good sign. Large koi are getting much braver. water temp still at around 83 in PM, 81 in AM. I need to get the oil heater unit working and see about venting outside and seeing about a clean, cheap fuel source for the really cold nights.

No, sealed and well built, but as of yet, not insulated. Being all metal, it heats up pretty well during the day. I can control the water temps by using/not using the gable fan. It was getting down in the low 80's last week, and after a few days of turning the fan off, it was back in the mid 80's. Of course, that's easier to do when the lows are low 70's and not 30's, like in the cold fronts. I'm hoping the heater will just be needed for a few weeks. I'm not trying to keep mid 80's, but if I can keep 70's, they will still eat and be active, and my mbbr won't crash.
