What a difference a purge makes!

Harvested the fish from the bath tomioght for dinner and they were SENSATIONAL!!!! I filleted them and skun them, and because we were a bit light on for everyone for dinner, crumbed and shallow fried them. 100% satisfied and stioked that it is all worthwhile. :D :D :D Even the kids got into it. The fish tasted like they were caught minutes before they hit the pan  That has to be a major advantage of growing them ourselves! Who really knows when the fish we buy were caught, or where they came from? Anyway, a few pics from the harvest. :wav:

Yep, definately. The difference was truly amazing. Just like the best fresh fish you've ever had. I think my high nitrates in the tanks have a bit to do with the off flavours of the first batch.

20 fish are in the bath now. Rang from over 400 grams to around 200.

 I love it, the bath is now a permanent purge tank..... Great to see the kids in there trying to catch their dinner... :)

So the pellet on a hook didn't work???

nope, and Angusw said he wanted to catch one by hand, as soon as he put his hand in and the fish flicked its tail he screamed ROFL and ran away! Emily was more than happy to hold for the picture. Note the red eyes. Must be the "evil fish killing eyes" LOL
BTW, as soon as they were out of the bath, they went into an ice slurry of salt water. Pretty instant death.

There is just so much about this that I love, but most of all how you convinved Heather to put fish in the bath. Out of all the funny and amazing things I have seen and read on this forum, this takes the cake. :occasion6:

Great stuff!
You have given me a great idea now Monya!
I am going to set up my final bath tub as a purging tank too (mrgreen)
But I am going to build a hinged lid for it so that it functions as a workbench in the shade house the rest of the time :)

Got a gap under the stairs doing nothing and another *potty mouth* fridge that's carked it.... so if it doesn't leak, or can be sealed easy....

like you say ... work bench.... hinged lid(s).... big compartment for hospital/purge tank.... small compartment for ice slurry tank...

Or you could use the purge tank as a floating raft tub for most of the time.
