my fish store carry a few of this and I been thinking about putting them in my 20 gallon long outdoor tank..

I would like to start a culture of this crayfish for eating...

im not sure if anyone has try it or attempt too..i would like some feedback first

Extremely invasive specie, be sure it's legal to keep in outdoor tanks at your location, and 2. if legal don't contribute to it's spreading in the wild by leting it escape

They're basically illegal all over the world.... that's how invasive they're considered....

Probably because they're self-cloning...

yes they have been done. Keith keeps these so i assume they are legal in indiana. Check out his basement thread.

i'm in ohio, and yeah, they're legal here because our winters get a little frosty

i've been using them mostly as a suplemental feed for my yp, bg and tilapia..i've got several 55gal tanks, most with at least 2 breeders, one tank has a couple of new broods.. i've let 40 or so grow out to about 2" before putting them in the pool but it took almost 2 years to get that many at the rate i'm going.. they will attack each other if you overcrowd them.. i've had 7 or 8 hatches now, started with one and i've easily fed 200+ small ones to the fish (about an inch or less)
i hope they keep reproducing in the pool to keep feeding the fish, not much structure, just a bunch of 1-1/2" pvc pipe cut offs with one end capped

Charlie is our resident cray expert it seems, but the one thing I've seen repeated over and over is that they're space prohibitive, and take too long to grow.

I have had them for some time now and the biggest is the size of my pinkie, and where there were many dozens of babies, there are now but a few adults..

The ones I like are in the aquarium inside - the breeding pair (was three - two females - but dad got hungry and gobbled the second one - seems eating is more attractive than procreating).. Just interesting to watch, and they do learn and come to know you and come to you for a feed..

as for getting them from a store.. you would need to learn to sex them, unless sold as a pair..

Again in fair conditions you can end up with many hundreds of tiny babies, but that is it..

the ideal is to grow them to a size where u can sex them and then separate males and females, but it's SOO hard keeping them alive for long enough to sort them
