Yesterday my oldest boy had a cross country meet out of state. But today we were able to build some.
I had my youngest son help in the morning and his older brother help in the afternoon. Then it was all three of us to stand up the wall. It is 16" on center and the wall is 9' high.
Completely built with reclaimed lumber. I am outsulating ( insulation on the out side of the wall ) so 2 x 4 are fine for the wall studs.

We built a work space out of pallets.

Thanks.

We put in some staggered blocking and two diagonal bracing in the inside wall that will stay there permanently. We installed the top plate. It is amazing how much stronger the wall feels now.

Even more so when you get some walls tied to it, and some sheeting.

Another building weekend for boys and me.
We have the two more walls up.

Everything that is up so far will be covered and insulated. The back roof will be covered and insulated.

We have some more progress. The ridge beam support is done.
The front wall is up and back rafters are ¾ painted.

Mark, are you making trusses, or just conventional framing the roof. Looking good.

My green house is based off Cord's proven design.
http://www.pennandcordsgarden.com/lates ... ouses.html

I got some consulting with him to help me avoid some issues. He has been building these for a while.
My insulation will be different and my venting will be a mix of two different projects he has done in the past.

It will look a lot like this one that Cord did but smaller.

I love this quote from their web site.

"Our passive solar greenhouses are 100% sustainable. They perform on their own year round with absolutely no fossil fuel, we don't even have to plug in a fan. Stored water, balanced design, double glazing and natural convection are just some of the ways to greenhouse freedom. Once you've built one of our greenhouses, you will see that it begins to work for you - not the other way around. NO FUEL BILL. Our greenhouses have brought tomatoes through 31 below zero - the greatest test we could make. "

We do not get as cold as them but we have fish so I will have to heat the fish water.

I had to mostly work on other stuff yesterday. But I was able to make some progress. I now have the back rafters painted and the front rafters ¾ painted.

I did the blocking on the front wall. Everything under the blocking will be vents.

Where the front wall goes against the foundation I cut some treated lumber at an angle. Then I used 6” structural screws to hold it all down.

I used the metal stands that will be used for the back beds to make a make shift scaffold. I will need this to help get the ridge beam up there.

Next up is some temp diagonal bracing on the front wall. Then cut a few rafters so I have them ready for the ridge beam.
I need to build the ridge beam.

It will be supported in the center with a post. I used three tubes of construction glue on this.
But I am still going to put a 12” piece of 2 x 10 in the on both sides and ½” bolt the center.
It seems very strong all the other places.

It is very heavy and my back still feels it from moving the beam around.
