I've not encountered that problem with them so far- they appear to be working as new, and have never been cleaned.

If that's the black flexible one I had one in a 4' aquarium in my bedroom and it nearly killed my little Hailea diaphragm pump.

Black rubber on the front with the air holes, but the body is white plastic.

Different thing entirely Gunna, mine was like a thin black snake and used to slowly degrade from one end to the other.
Do you mind me asking where you got them and what the recommended airflow was because they seem like a much better design?

That's exactly what I'm talking about. Maybe back pressure is the wrong word, but in advertisements they quote longer pump life than with air stones.

Sleepe, I've been searching back through thousands of emails this morning trying to figure out where I bought them from, but cant find them, yet.
They are unbranded, so that doesn't give me any clues, but I think they were $30 or so each and I bought 3, so will have a look through my credit card statements from early this year later and see if I can figure it out.

I'm running a 70lpm pump through 2 of them (and through 1 for a while) and that works fine, and they also perform well with a 12V 50lpm Hailea, so anything in the 20-70+lpm range appears to be ok..

at the nearest aquastore for me they were 27 usd each, so that sound's about right. mine were dark grey rubber also, but still.

I'd like to try them to if you find where you got them from.

Much appreciate the effort Gunna; if it was just me I'm not sure its worth it but there seems to be at least some interest in these.

That's enough of being pleasant; I will end up ruining my reputation as being a cranky bastard.

Yes Rendang, almost identical in appearance other than colour, but those are a bit larger, mine are about 180mm diameter. Those are a bit less expensive too. I can't see how many holes are in the membranes, but mine are at about 5mm spacing.
