I provided many tubes to hide in etc.etc. and added many tiny yabbies and now there are relatively few left..

I have come to agree with Charlie, that they are OK, but not a serious product to grow..

probably yabbie if brought in a shop or from a dam out east. As you are in Bunbury they are actually a declared pest west of the Albany Hwy (basically the whole south-west). There are restrictions on yabbie stocking - particularly in streams, dams and ponds but probably does not affect aquarium trade. They are easily obtained in Perth and are regularly stocked in dams outside the restricted zone. But yabbies definitely earn their name 'destructus'.

in WA Yabbie stocking is restricted in Marron territory because they out compete Marron - yet on the flipside from Victoria (the world is a funny place)....

+1 - interesting and good for clean up duties esp. uneaten pellets etc. But to grow for food you need to get pretty serious.

too many or too big and they start to get pretty aggressive to goldfish etc.

I have a FT with tiny KOI cull, and some have made it to the yabbie sump, and I find half eaten Koi..
And sometimes Koi still very much alive, and cut in half..

I'm now going to put couple of marron in my fish tank and three lugs for yabbies. With water flowing through all of them before going back into the tank

If water flows from one to the other like a waterfall effect before going back to fish tank. Is that enough air flow in water or will I require extra air

Let the water splash and it should be efficient.

ultimately will depend on your stocking rate. But if there is a reasonable splash then it should be fine.
most farm dams are not aerated and yabbies are generally OK except in algal blooms (they get up and walk out).
I only have a stream of water pouring into my tanks on timer with fish and doesn't worry yabbies or GF at all.
Running out onto a larger diameter pipe helps as well (ie. add say a 32mm-50mm elbow at the discharge).

** yabbies/marron wont control mosquito larvae, so you may have to drop a goldfish or 2 in or some other fish.

He will be using a splash inlet to aerate so the water won't be still i.e. no mosquito breeding. If it were still water that would promote mosquito breeding.

I'm using a 55litre tub as my yabbie tanks,
They are 710mm by 440 wide an 300 high
Will these be ok and do you think 2 females an 6 males to breed is ok or to overstocked.
Also how big are the blue barrels on there side cut in half. Is there much difference

Blue barrels are approx 200l, so 100l per half.

I wonder if 100 litres of volume. But I think in a square tub there would be more floor space as the drums are round so not much area on floor but

Hi Hezzy, I put 10 yabbies in my IBC sumptank back in March. I saw one being eaten by 'Big Blue' and thought I had lost a few more. I recently did a major water change and was pleased to find 7 of the original 10 left. I haven't fed them much through the winter - they must live on the biofilm and algae in the ST. Occasionally they get a few fish pellets or a couple of chook pellets. They were pretty keen on the grated carrot last autumn (it sinks so they can find it). Their shells are nice and hard and they seem healthy, but no young ones yet. They have various sized cut off PVC pipes and a milk crate with rocks and onion bags to hide in.

I'm not sure how I'll go, if I put yabbies in the 55 litre tub it is square sided and much more floor area.
Half a barrel is more water volume but not as much flat surface, so I'm undecided on what option to pick at the moment.
Either way I'm sure results should show over summer
