Hi guys I have recently moved to Germany from Australia and now finally have time to put together my first AP system. However after days of research I've found out that it is a little more difficult over here then in Ozy. Manly the fish in a colder climate. So this is what I've come up with for my first try-

A small indoor system using European perch as they should make it through the winter ok. For fish food I was thinking some form of lave or worm, or is there a good pellet food that i could use? Also having difficulties finding European perch fingerling..

Just trying to bounce some ideas around if anyone out there has any experience or knowledge in this area.

Hi
I think you are asking the right question.
I got some Ep fingerlings last November and despite my best efforts to kill them with ignorance they are still alive. They are tough. Water temperatures from 4*C to 25*c no problem. They taste good and sell for a particularly good price in Germany and bordering countries. 10 new perch/pike RAS farms have opened or are opening in the EU this year. So somebody is investing.
I got my fingerlings here in the UK From a farm in Kidderminster.
The main difficulty has been slow growth and getting them to eat. Two sides of the same coin. Below 15*c they are not hungry.
My fingerlings were supposed to be pellet trained. Erm No. They will eat live bloodworms readily and I have had some success with dried Daphnia. Pellets No.
They like ‘moving’ food. I used a small power head and mixed crushed pellets with worms. Some success.
Buying the worms was expensive. I did consider breeding them but feminine planning permission was refused.
I think you need to keep the water about 20*c and have a cheap source of worms for weaning onto pellets.
Good Luck

Thanks SolTun, not sure how i didn't bump into that earlier!

Titus, thanks for the info. Good to hear they are hardy but the feeding may be a problem. Just out of interest how much did you pay for the fingerlings?
