I've heard that Nile Tilapia can start spawning at around 25-28grams (1oz) and 3-4 inches long. Males grow faster and larger then females traditionally.

Even at such a small size and weight, would it be possible to size-grade and separate the fish at around 10-15grams to avoid any potential unwanted spawning in the fish tank? Or are they so small all the males and females are to close to grade effectively?

Umm.. why worrie... the worst thing to happen will be that growth of fish with a gob full, will be reduced..

I seriously doubt that a fish tank with a serious flow, will encourage spawning..

And then, i can't see fry lasting long within a typical tank under hobby AP...

SO AGAIN.. I can't imagine there will ever be a real issue.. :-)

Thats my experience with spawning Bui Doi,they do try but the only survivors are the very small amount that make it into the filters and the DWCs and considering how many fish i have the amount they can spawn,there are very very few survivors
It is possible to purchase all male fish,these are achieved by breeding F1 hybrids,which results in all male fry,or chemically treating at a very young age so they all change into males.

The all male fish are what I bought. I think it is something like 99% male, so there will still be some breeding. I was recommended to have a small predator fish for the spawn. This is in a pond, so probably not relevant for AP.
