I don't believe this garbage thread is still going, let me guess, being promoted by the author...
you promote both pros and cons to suit yourself........give it a rest man......

unless of course you work for Monsanto.!!

The "author" thinks your pretty ignorant if you can't understand the original post, or that a person can be for notification, and yet not be against the science behind creating possible life -saving, innovative plants. They haven't even began to explore the medical options of GM plants, some of which may hold cures for cancer, autism, or a myriad of other diseases.

I'll "give it a rest" when I'm done.

I've been self employed since I graduated, so not getting any money from Monsanto...or Sygenta, or Dow. It's always Monsanto? At least spread the hate around...the others are just as "guilty" in the plan to take over the world.

Hard to have an intelligent debate with people who are so quick to jump to conclusions, yet can't back up anything they say with much other then "I saw a doco few years ago." Thanks, I'll look that up.

Organic= good
GMO= bad
Monsantp=evil
Chemicals=bad
All clear cut..black & white. Simple....minded.

LOL

man made plants need to be studied to find out the "magic" they hold?
wouldnt the scientists know if they are putting cancer curing genes into a plant before they start??? :wacko:

I'm totally baffled, by the point of this discussion... Now you want labeling of GMO??

GMO's kill baby fur seals...!!!!!!

Because by your definitions any offspring of two parents should be called a GMO, and a seal clubber is someones child...

I never said I didn't want GMO labeling, merely wrote what a reporter noted after a several month study of GM food. I thought the fact that a large majority of people were jumping on the "no GMO bandwagon" yet didn't even consider the other toxins in their food. Not really sure why that was so unclear.

I didn't say that I considered hybridizing the same as genetically modified foods. I simply quoted a local ag scientist who brought up some valid points.

Like I've already said 2 or three times. My verdict is still out. I'm still sorting the evidence that I can find. I've never been a band wagoner type. Usually, when everyone is following the crowd, I'm the one walking the other way.

I would like to be informed if my food does contain a GM product, but at this point, I'm not positive that I would be scared of it. Since the vast majority(90%) of our corn, soy beans, and cotton are GM, I also don't know if I could easily eat a diet without GM food. I've read that over 65% of our supermarket items contain GMO products.

I haven't seen any studies that have linked GMO food to any health problems. If anyone has seen any real scientific studies, with controls, please let me know.

Sorry I ruffled so many feathers, but I can have a discussion without being antagonistic...to a point. When someone wants to attack me, them I'm quite able to defend myself. My point was to discuss the labeling of foods, general thought on GMO safety, and to get some interesting comments. Similar to Colum's and Stuarts. Both presented facts and backed up with links, not just the same old rhetoric about "evil Monsanto, and GMO foods "taking over the world" crap that I hear all the time.

I dont think GMOs have been around long enough to find any real health risks, as i say to others.... asbestos, DDT, etc. They were touted as great just like GMO and supposedly had no health effects, just like GMO.
We will have to wait 50 years to see how bad GMO is or isnt, by then it will be too late, it will be EVERYWHERE, there wont be a natural edible plant left on the planet which doesnt have GMO genes in it.

This is what most people are scared of i think, i dont think there are many people out there that are running away crying because "it will give you cancer if you eat it once"...

I am personally against GMO because it isnt needed, simple as that, also i dont belive this churchy crap of humans being the smartest thing ever and the world being here for us to do what we want with..... humans dont own the earth!! we have no right to make shit like this without knowing exactly what will happen to the planet and the earthlings which inhabit it who have no choice in this.... Personally, human health is the last thing on my mind and wouldnt mind at all if it was a total disater for human society, we need it to be..... we need to remove 90% of the humans.

Humans innovate. It's what we do, and without it, we'd still be marathon running down animals on the plains of Africa, and waiting for them to collapse while we could out endurance run them.

It's not going to stop either. At some point we're going to crack aging, and make it stop, and if we think our population problems are bad now, wait till people don't age and die. And where I see GMO foods coming into play is places like Mars/Europa, and however far we can actually get (and yes, I read a lot of Sci-Fi, but as a people, we like to explore, and it's going to happen eventually.).

yea GM will be good for space, TBH, we will need to GM ourselves to survive mars, etc.
i think unless we do get to mars first.... once the population is big enough people will realise death is needed and wont stop it, it may stop for awhile though, hopefully.

Just search MERCOLA for GMO.. He has been leading the fight, and I have trusted Dr. Mercola for years. He normally gives references to check back on facts

He was preaching VitaminD for many years, and it is only recent times that the rest have cottoned on.
Same with VitaminK2.. and now others are following

I find it interesting that some folk object to the thought of discussing and object to the thread being alive..
How brain dead to complain - I thought the answer was YOU JUST DON'T READ IT.. :bootyshake:

like the fools declaring they can't stand a particular tv or radio announcer - Appliances have an OFF switch..

and... Just a taste..

Here’s a small sampling of the nutritional differences found in this 2012 nutritional analysis:

Calcium: GMO corn = 14 ppm / Non-GMO corn = 6,130 ppm (437 times more)
Magnesium: GMO corn = 2 ppm / Non-GMO corn = 113 ppm (56 times more)
Manganese: GMO corn = 2 ppm / Non-GMO corn = 14 ppm (7 times more)

GMO corn was also found to contain 13 ppm of glyphosate, compared to zero in non-GMO corn. This is quite significant and well worth remembering.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) “safe” level for glyphosate in American water supplies is 0.7 ppm. In Europe, the maximum allowable level in water is 0.2 ppm. Organ damage in animals has occurred at levels as low as 0.1 ppm... At 13 ppm, GMO corn contains more than 18 times the “safe” level of glyphosate set by the EPA.

Why don't you all put as much research effort into something you can do something about (aquaponics would be nice)? :roll:

Even just guessing would be better than this. :)
