The problem you might encounter with this is that the more openings you have, the slower the water velocity will be, meaning only a very limited area near each hole will be cleaned. Also, balancing will be a problem- the water will take the path of least resistance, so flow will concentrate in the holes nearest the larger pipe that takes the waste up and away, leaving waste accumulations in the extremities of the pipe network.

Have you thought about small kreepy crawly type pool cleaner? You could use a timer to turn it on every now and then. That keeps the FT bottom clear, and will give the fish some entertainment too
