Hi, just a quick intraductory note........

I represent a small group of Men-Shed members, located in Stirling, Western Australia, who are setting up a "pilot" aquoponics project at the Shed.

The Men's Shed concept is based on a community-based, non-profit, non-commercial organization. Accessible to all men whose primary activity is the provision of a safe and friendly environment where men are able to work on meaningful projects at their own pace in their own time in the company of other men. A major objective is to advance the well-being and health of their male members. For more info visit http://www.mensshed.org/home/.aspx).

Whilst our team's goal is to establish a larger operation capable of growing enough fish to one day satisfy the needs of our 120 members, our intitial aim is to successfully run the pilot so as to learn how best we can achieve this goal in the years to come.

To this end we are currently repurposing a hydraponics system (see pic attached), which was donated to the Shed. Our aim being to install 3 x 75mm dia perspex windows into each side of tank, install pump an airator, then fill with 110 litres of water. Once we havs stabalised the water, we will add the Perch fingelings (5) and comence feeding, using an auto feeder.

Would welcome any comments/observations from other Backyarders so feel free to offer your feedback!

Many thanks to the organisers of this website

ShedderChris
