I guess my mockup from the other day would be very similar except for the outlet pipe not being centered. But it would have a jagged weir (couldnt make it look that way in this picture.)Image

Ryan's design is so incredibly simple, yet highly effective. His spent use a saw tooth weir, just a smooth clear disc. The inlet has a larger cap above it that forces all the water down, and then the disc covers 75% of the surface. The center inlet then drains to the mbbr. Cleaning is simply draining the bottom cone ball valve, which has a clear pvc section to inspect. Simple, easy to build, and extremely effective.

I'm still looking for a good deal on a larger cone bottom tank.

I really like his rfs no doubt. Like I said. I will probably test build it with my current setup to see how it works with this small of a tank. My only concerne is that by moving the inlet under water closer to the bottom of the rfs it may stir upp solids at the bottom. Especially with my flat bottom tank I use now.
The problem with all these tanks is shipping cost. Search for inductor tanks. Maybe you will get lucky and find someone close to you that carries them.

I can find them for about 350-400 new. But considering that's more then I spent on all the other tanks on my system combined, that's hard for me to pony that $ up. Just the principle I guess.lol I may not have an option, but I think the new mbbr will make a huge difference.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's just a lot of money to be spending on plastic tanks. And then make sure you don't cut them in the wrong spot..LOL

What size are you thinking of?

If you order a cone bottom tank. Ask if its a flow through tank. It has to do with the outlet. Non flow through tanks may. Not empty out solids properly

How about one of these, not sure how you would fit them to make them water tight but they are designed for 55 gall barrels. These are for Deer feeders,$20 on amazon.

Great find Andy! If they're not waterproof, they will be after a coat of silicon. Thanks!! Ordering today.

The angle in those is not very steep and beware some of those cones have a slightly different diameter than the drum you plan on using.

No, I may need to do some "adjusting". But my current set-up is a uniseal through the bottom and then a short piece of pipe that sits above the bottom as my drain outflow. This would be a huge improvement over that- and a LOT cheaper then those inductor tanks!

Going to be hard to attach it to the RFF. They say they use screws to attach for the feeder purpose. I would have to take the RFF off line, and then drain and dry. Silicon/epoxy it on, let dry and then test run. If I do just 1 at a time, it should be OK. Epoxy will dry faster.

With enough screws and plenty of silicone/epoxy it should seal ok,this has got to be an improvement over a flat bottom barrel, following this with interest Chris, shame i cant them here in Thailand.
How about your auto fish feeders ? did you get it working ? if you did i could very well copy you.
