Have you got access to uniseals Brian? I know here in Aus they are much more affordable then bulkheads. Basic principles of all above are good, just try and get as close as you can.

A conical bottom is best, but difficult to find.

I am giving Amazon a try for these latest parts I need. Uniseal store has only one of the 1 1/2 inch bulkheads I needs for my barrels :upset: so that is going to delay the filter setup, anyway I don't have the shadecloth yet, some bio-balls, yes. Tough being in the needful things place. Soon I'll be ahead of it. The resin is in Amarillo, and that is critical for my grow-beds, so I'll count my blessings.

for the power coated metal drum I don't think Uniseals will work as well as a bulkhead connector as the sharp edges of the drum will cut into the rubber, don't know this for a fact, yet

I don’t know if you have a tractor supply but they have bulkhead fittings at a good price.

Brian, most Farm stores, Irrigation stores have bulkheads, sometimes True Value.
If you pull a blank let me know, which size and I can get them for you. NM is just 3-4 days for a postal box

Thanks Gnoib, your suggestion paid off both TSC and BigR had them, although both had threaded, and I've been using double slip fittings, so I had to buy converters for both sides. I got an email from Total pond saying my order of double slip bulkheads shipped. I'll be swimming in bulkheads by next week, hehe. For the HDPE barrel I'd like to use Uniseals, they'll be much easier to install, but those are still a few business days out, as well. I'd like to also increase the cone shape in the bottom of the metal drum, but on that one I don't want to disrupt the powder coating. I've decided to do all 1 1/2 inch (38 mm) going in and out of the filters, including the clean-out. I know all the pipe diameters are small. I have my work cut out making certain I don't restrict the flows any more than they already are.
The resin...

Saturday delivery may just save the day.
I'll start on the 1 inch (25 mm) from the pump to the GBs today, Jezz it's a lot of plumbing. I wish I had bought some kind of pipe hangers... Now I'll need to improvise something for this. What is everyone else doing to secure the PVC to the walls?
I want to do a homemade manifold near the pump to keep water flowing better.

I also forgot the shade cloth. I've seen Youtube videos where instead of shade cloth they are using filter cloth cut to size.

Somehow it seems like it would be slightly easier to take out and clean, nah, shade cloth will be easier, with the shape I have with the brown barrel. It is a pretty cool Bakki Tower.

I was running on empty yesterday afternoon. All morning I was dizzy, which in my line of work is very bad. No selfies for this kid yesterday; it was all I could do to hang on the utility poles when I finally got up to the top. I felt less dizzy in the two hardware stores after work, but not tip-top for certain. Finally finished the day in the grocery store. I hope my wife gets out of pain and back on her feet soon, this pace is rough rough rough.
I hope that dizzy crap is over with today, otherwise I may take my first dip in the pond!

Yeah, being dizzy up on a pole that's 50 feet the air is probably not a good idea.I only had that happen once. Doing a roof job and started getting heat exhaustion. That was a scary feeling...being dizzy and light headed up a few stories.

Glad you found some. Did not you had a Big R, or I would have told to get them there.
That heat dizziness, use cold packs, get them at Wal Mart and have them at the back of your neck and half way around your neck, cools down the blood temp going and coming to/from that grey glibber in your skull.
Works, I outfitted for 15 years in the Navajo Res, 120F in the shade, if you can find it, 10 hours on a horse.
And do not expose any skin to the sun, 2 size larger long sleeve shirt thick material. you sweat, it works like a swamp cooler. I always had a thick denim shirt on and a xxl wool sweater, I am a 160 pound guy, always stayed cool

Dang! This plumbing is kind of difficult. Did someone tell me I should leave space around the filters to work and FIT the Plumbing??

Anywho, I got the second peice of the puzzle dry set; the externals to the RFF! Next up The Bio-filter!

BTW, I know I installed the bulkheads backwards I broke out my autobody tools and cleaned them up and hammered the metal so the bulkheads fit snug and siliconed the heck out of them.

Thanks Gnoib these tips are smart. This is some kind of bug I think, though

Oh, and I also forgot the PVC valves before and after the filters, doh. Maybe it was a blessing, I now see that I should go up a size in valve so I have no restrictions in the flow from the SLO
