I'm glad we restrict somewhat the right to own guns. I think its wrong if some people who genuinely need guns apparently can't get them (really ?) Farmers etc. But I have one of "those" neighbors, very to the right, always right, the more he drinks the louder and more right he is, so I'm glad we don't have guns at hand, because honestly sometimes I feel like . . . . .

As for Colums comment about Isis, absolutely correct, al qaeda and Isis never existed in Iraq before the US bombed, invaded and destroyed the country. Al qaeda itself was created out of the struggle over control of Afgahnistan (Reagan's "freedom fighters"). And yes all Governments that participated are equally responsible and should also be on trial for war crimes.

How quickly we forget/distort history. Al Qaeda was started during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and during the Syrian civil war, fought against their own factions as well as moderate Muslims. Perhaps you forgot 911? We didn't. All the Muslim terror groups use the terror attacks to instigate attacks on the Arab countries, and them use that to drive up hatred for all Western countries and encourage more radicals to join the ranks. If you think it's best to just leave them be, and not take the fight to them, you are a special kind of stupid. Blaming the US for creating these groups is beyond logic and is not backed by facts.

We're getting away from the OP, but when you start firing off outrageous statements like that, I feel they need a response. When your embassy's, ships, and then business landmark's get attacked/bombed, what would you suggest as the best course of action? Maybe sit down with them and have a tea party? These people want one thing. Exterminating anyone who doesn't believe in their God, and their beliefs. You don't bargain or negotiate with these types, you kill them. If that sounds "mean" or "cruel", please ask someone who has seen what these animals are capable of. We now have homegrown Islamic terrorists and some that are planning attacks from within. Boston Marathon. I, for one am glad that we have armed citizens for this cause alone.

"When your embassy's, ships, and then business landmark's get attacked/bombed, what would you suggest as the best course of action?"

Ask yourself why those people do that. Might it be because those embassies are involved in practices that harm the local people? Or those ships are military ones and the local people feel threatened by that? Maybe the American business landmarks trying to aggressively sell things the local people don't want or is against their cultural/religious believes?

Rule one in entering foreign countries is "respect their culture and religion at all times and with all means". I don't see that respect in American overseas behavior, at all.

"These people want one thing. Exterminating anyone who doesn't believe in their God, and their beliefs. You don't bargain or negotiate with these types, you kill them."

Wow, did you read your text back a couple of times before posting? Isn't the US just like that? Pushing their "Exceptional Democratic Beliefs" upon others, and if they do not comply, invade and exterminate them? (Khadafi, Hussein, Asad for example). Let alone the never ending "crusade" of the US Christians all over the world.
Sure you can blame them for starting it all. But who came to whose country first? Did they come to the US to fight before the US came to their home countries and started mayhem there, or is it the other way around?

Just a thought….

Ooops, its gone out of control now.

I agree with Columns first post, and the comedian says what most Aussies that I know think.

This is meant to be a happy and constructive place fellow APer's.

FFS, 10 pages of rants in less than a week.

Gun control has in the main worked in Australia. Sure the crims still have guns, but kids aren't walking into school with Dad semi automatic rifle, killing mass students because they got teased, people aren't walking into shopping centers and killing people. It just isn't happening.

Criminals will always find a way to get guns from overseas, thats what they do. They know how to get drugs in, so I'm sure they will get guns, but in general, people don't walk around with guns, and that suits me fine.

Yep my countries government sorted out the issue once and for all, but do you think its legal for Gays, Lesbians... to get married, nah, that's weird man. Fancy all of us having equal rights. Hasn't worked anywhere else that I can see.

No I didn't forget history nor am I stupid. To be precise the Mujahideen were fighting the democratically elected (pro soviet) Government with funding and training provided by the CIA before the Soviets invaded in a disastrous attempt to prop up that Government. Then the support for the Islamists went into overdrive and Al Qaeda was born as conduit for that funding. Al Qaeda began attacking the US after they stationed US troops in Saudi during the first Gulf War.(see how the chickens come home to roost ?)

What the Islamists and the US Government have in common is a deep hatred of the secular regimes in the Mid East that nationalized their oil industries. So the US bombed Iraq into oblivion three times (creates Isis), NATO did bombing runs for the Islamists in Libya (gee its going well there) and then unleashed them onto Syria. As long as Isis and Al Qaeda were suicide and car bombing Syrians and setting up an Islamic 1/3 of a state in Syria no problem. Sure their bombing Isis now but maybe in a few months they'll all get together again to overthrow Assad. Not only did his father nationalize oil, but they've leased a big naval base to the Russians (the Syrian people are gonna be made to pay for that). If the US and Australia is fighting Al Qaeda terrorists etc etc how come they only overthrow secular regimes ? And have the closest relations with Saudi Arabia where most of the 911 attackers came from ?

So, no I never suggested sitting down and having a tea party with terrorists. We should let the people of the Middle East deal with them. Cut the ground out from under their feet, withdraw all foreign troops from the Middle East. Stop the drone murder program, stop funding the CIA who fund and train the terrorists. Stop supplying the Saudis with weapons. Stop this bullcrap "war on terror" which is just an excuse to invade other countries and destroy your democratic rights at home. With all the trillions of dollars saved, spend it on upgrading the infrastructure, hospitals and housing in the US, create jobs and raise wages, that would reduce the crime rates.

Put the war criminals Bush and Obama (who now asserts the right to kill Americans without trial) and all their accomplices in Oz and Britain on trial for war crimes, after all they are the mass murderers of this century.

Change course, think big, I know the American people can do it. All the best, I have the greatest confidence in the American People !

Sunday night I had the privilege of watching the documentary "The Tillman Story". I would highly, highly recommend everybody watch this account of the manipulation, abuse and contempt with which this family was treated by his commanding officers, all the way up to Rumsfeld and probably Bush as well. You seen it Coach ? I just don't believe anyone could watch this with an open mind and not conclude the whole lot should be put in prison.

I think most Americans agree that nearly all of our "leaders" should be in prison; they just won't go willingly lol :(
(and no one seems to have the guts to send them their by trial or force)

I got my CCW because I was able to and parents thought it would be good to have because of the way that politicians are acting.

Some of the higher gun laws are in areas that sees the most gun crime. The civilians can not have guns unless they go through some massive amout of forms/waiting time in these areas. Criminals will not follow this and commit the crimes and police show up after things have happened.

"Guns don't kill people, people do. We need to concentrate on the values and morals of our citizens and at the role the media plays in glorifying violence and the lack of respect for law."

A lot of parents have blame too (especially for values and morals they aren't teaching their kids and often don't have themselves.) 10 year old kids accidentally shooting themselves or others should never happen, and it comes back to parents not teaching their children firearm safety from a young age. There are way too many kids being raised by the TV and the internet.

I have a friend who works from home and has plenty of time he could be spending with his kids, instead he sits around on the computer or xbox one playing video games and just ignores the kids and lets them play with his tablet all day and watch TV; those kids are going to be worthless when they grow up.

I'ts the same here pretty much, but in some periods of history things can change very quickly. Interesting how this thread grew into 10 pages so quickly, I think it indicates a lot of people are trying to grapple with what the hell is going on in the world at the moment. I tried to stay away but in the end just couldn't help myself.

CCW is a concealed carry permit so you can carry a pistol hidden on your person. Different states call them different things like CHP, CPP, CWP, etc.
