I used to do 3 day eventing professional. Had to quit after a solid TBI.
After 30 years as a professional athlete, my body actualy enjoys not to have to exercise or train any more.
I still do about 60 tons of hay, hand stacked in the barn, but I allways dread the next few days when I am done.
No sports any more for this old fart :D

Love almost all sports. Played football, tennis, and soccer in high school. Enjoyed some boxing, martial arts during my 20-30's. Coached baseball, tennis, soccer, and some basketball from 30's through early 50's. Sticking with tennis, some weight training, and swimming now. Easier on the joints and still keeps in somewhat decent shape. Played tennis semi-professionally. That means I wasn't good enough to beat enough other "pros" and earn a decent living. lol

Hope I can always stay active and fit.

Never really cared for any of the fitness gadgets. Free weights and and pull up bar any day. Resistance bands are great for rehab and traveling with no gyms.

Grew up in little league and played baseball until about 14
Started rowing (crew)freshmen year of high school and continued for 4yrs. We won the state championship (varsity boat)and placed 5th in the nation at nationals.
Went to college and got too busy with life and packed on a few pounds.

Saw a commercial about a local triathlon and thought "hey! I can do that!"
Trained for a year and competed in the following tri... Finished in the middle of about 150 people in my age group.

Commited to training for the next year and placed first in 4 of 6 local Sprint tri's. Went back to that original tri and competed again... Came in 4th this time.
Began training for ironman distance triathlon and felt in my prime... Almost winning a place in the Kona national championships. Ran a few marathons, longest distance was a 36mile(ultra)marathon.

Then... 4 yrs of knee surgeries blew my hopes. 3 knee scopes and a blown ACl (reconstructed with 1/3 or my petella tendon) really slowed me down. I could hold a sub 6min pace for a good 12 miles running but I'm not supposed to run more than a block now. It sucks to have the motivation only to have your body give out on you. Im back up to jogging 6 miles (and still bike and swim)but have to be very cautious of my form. Told my wife it's not worth giving up, I just love it too much so I'm sure I'll have some Robo knees before long.

Here's to Sports and challenging your body and mind! Ive learned more about life and more about myself out on that pavement in 100+deg weather than you could ever imagine.

Ryan, be careful of the "robo knees". Your surgically repaired knee is still way better. My daughter has had 5(surgeries) on her right and 2 on her left, 2 ACL's on the right. She can't do much running either without her knee blowing up.

I only ran distances to stay fit on a tennis court. 6-7 miles was far enough. More sprint/endurance, which sucks in it's own right. :D

Out of all sports, I liked tennis the best. Same reason you like Ironmans. It's just you, and what you put in. Teams are awesome when they click, but too many times I had mates that just didn't care, or gave up. Two things that did and still do drive me crazy. Same with martial arts/boxing- no one else in the ring/mat but you and him.

I have a new employee who is a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu. He's built perfect for grappling, short and stocky. He kills me, but is teaching be some basic grappling, which I've never learned. It's fun getting tapped out in 20 seconds. :upset: I can hold my own in stand up, until I get tired. But he's can play with me with the ground game like I could play with a 10 year old. I'm getting better. The last time we grappled, it took him almost a minute to get me in an arm-bar. :wave1:

I was a late bloomer at school, and pretty much missed any sporting chances there. All my mates played football, and I'd get hammered. So it stopped appealing to me, and being small and scrawney, not many sports really jumped out at me.

I did Judo for a few years, but it's a little useless for self defence, and again being a weed, I was light and easy to flip. But I wasn't too bad at it.

But for the last year or so, I've been weight lifting (some would say it was a sport). And after I doubled my calories I'd been eating, I'm actually stacking the muscle on (and looking forward to my first cutting, I'm getting a pot belly). My target is to do a world naked gardening video in 2016. See how buff I can get in 7 months.

Never was much into sports. Did the T-ball and soccer/futball as a very young kid. Then the Ritalin epidemic was in full swing and that turned me from the skinny kid to a lazy fat ass that I am now.

I have always believed in not abusing my body, therefore I have avoided physical sports like the plaque, so far in my 65 years of life this has served me well. i have never broken a bone, damaged any body part from that sort of abhorent behaviour
I am not fat, this is insulation against the cold weather
Motor sport is another matter, anything that I can drive on 4 wheels and travels fast grabs my attention.

Tonzz- that's too funny. I've been pretty lucky. Meniscus in right knee, broken nose(multiple) it's not a bone- so doesn't count)broken ribs multiple times(the worst), dislocated shoulder, broken knuckles, fractured wrist, dislocated fingers, and too many muscle strains, pull, and tears to count.

I wouldn't trade them for anything. Like Ryan said earlier: You learn a lot about yourself during those times. I still love to compete, I'm just not as competitive. :D

I epitomize the saying: I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was. :wave1:

I grew up playing baseball as my main sport, I was playing in 2 leagues at once (rec and travel) and would pitch a full game in rec then go later in the day for another 2-3 innings in travel. I got to 12 years old and started throwing curveballs and my elbow started to hurt pretty bad. I got what this Greek doctor called "little leaguers elbow." Had to stop playing after that and took up basketball.
Played basketball all the way through sophomore year in high school (rec, travel, school) until I was going to commit to a full summer of training to make the varsity team when our school recruited a few really good players and I knew I wouldn't make it (the starting lineup that year was 6'5, 5'10, 6'5, 6'8, 6'10 - they were huge). I kept playing for fun and did some intramural leagues in college.
Fast forward to September 2014 and I was playing in a competitive league at my local gym, when during the last game of the season I sustained a complete tear of my ACL. What is funny is that the same Greek doctor is the one who performed my surgery a month later (I decided to go with a cadaver ligament). Those next 3 weeks were some of the worst of my life, but I'm much better now (almost 10 months post op) and started playing a little bit again but not nearly at the intensity that I was playing at before. I expect to be closer to 100% in another 8 months and probably won't play competitively again until then.
