Is the concrete remover you guys use called "Liquid Hammer"? I have a few IBC's with Liquid Hammer residue in them that I would love to use for Aquaponics after cleaning them, but I'm not sure if it's safe to do so.
I'M NEW TO THIS AND DON'T WANT TO SCREW THINGS UP!
So, if you (Shaggy) or anyone else has used an IBC that's contained biodegradable concrete remover, and have had success in growing healthy plants and fish, please let me know! Thanks a lot!

You could probably get on the Liquid Hammer supplier's website and download the MSDS. It should give you an idea of whether or not it would be safe to use as well as proper safety and general cleaning guidelines. Another option would be to call the Liquid Hammer supplier directly and see what they would say as to how to properly clean and treat their product. You might also ask whether IBCs using their chemicals could be used for food grade purposes if washed properly.

More than it's worth. Would be cheaper to dig a hole and pay for a good liner and go that route.

Try trucking companies. Some of the newest trucks run a urea injection system into their exhaust, something to do with complying to the euro 4 emition requirements. A mate of mine manages a workshop and has trouble getting rid of them quick enough to stop the yard filling up. Worth a try.

that is my preference, very easy to flush and simply nitrogen fertilizer.....

I typically paid $80 cash for trucking Urea ones, well worth it over 'cheap' chemical ones......

Basically EU sulphide reduction regulations so anyone running Scandanavian, German trucks etc.

Those are used here in the USA as well, but I have yet to find a company that will let go of them unless they're beat up to the point of being unusable. Good luck though!

The Lexington Container Company in Lexington, KY has used food grade IBC for $105 (275 gallon) and $125 (330 gallon). They've got a ton of them.

IBC prices was the reason it took me a while to decide to get into aquaponics. I stopped in at a feed store and asked the proprietor for a source and probable cost. He gave me a phone number and said $20 each. We bought 29 and after we get initially set up, will decide what to do with our spares, including possibly helping others set up their small systems.

Not sure where our source gets them, but they have had either food grade detergent or soda ash (lye). Several people buy from him and re-sell, but we plan to use most/all of the ones we have either in our AP system or for other farm/ranch uses.

This afternoon, we took the one we bought for $10 (bad valve) and put chicken wire around the cage to use for small chicks who have outgrown their wagon but are not ready for the big pen.

So, what is an IBC?
What were they filled with?
Which businesses have them?
