LOL Rupe... If it ain't broke it gets used to death around here... Upgraded to this desktop 3 yrs ago +/-. Cost me all of $250 US with a monitor. Just had to upgrade the RAM. It even runs the the majority of the business for me... Everything gets stored on an external HD anyway for security purposes...

Should've seen what I upgraded from... Win98 with an 11 gig internal HD... My phone has more memory than that now... Business has a Win7 laptop with maxed out RAM, though. That gets pulled out whenever heavy analysis needs to get done and multiple screens are needed.

Fishbits, I only upgraded when my school updated... and nothing I did on my old computer would transfer.
Of all the things that tick me off about MicroSoft... is the obsolescence. Mac and MS both have a 'crash' issue, both are striving for monopolies, but... I'm not geek enough to run Ubuntu. I tried... so much for that.

I'm convinced that the next thing I'd like to see that would change the world, besides AP; integrative upgrades... adaptive tech that when the new one comes out, would have to fit into an adapter, so you don't need a new machine.

I have been using this tool for many moons. Works like a charm.

An easy way to resize pictures to 800 x 600 is by using Microsoft Image Resizer Powertoy. Once the small program from microsoft has been installed, you can just 'right click' any image and you have the option of resizing. Resizing to medium gives you the picture resized to 800 x 600 and renamed, so you don't lose your original picture.

To upload pictures, in either the public Album, or your own personal gallery, click 'album' at the top of the page. So long as your logged in, then in the Category section you'll have the option of uploading your pictures..

Easy....... Any troubles, just ask. :D

Cheers.

+1

So simple to use. :thumbright:

I've used it from Windows XP through to Windows 8.1 without any problems whatsoever, I'm about too upgrade to Windows 10 on July 29th and I hope the Image Resizer continues to work the same as it has so far. :dontknow:

EB I hope that they' have sorted out their image control problems in Windows 10 and I also hope they've dropped their Apple like APPS store crap that wants too sell you something every time Windows 8.1 can't find what you're looking for.

Yeah, stupid windows 8.1... First image shows perfect on puter in portrait, upload it and it's landscape... So, rotate image clockwise 90degrees using right click, shows as being rotated thumbnail in explorer. rename and upload the second image, same as the first....

I use a lot formats other than JPG, and with formats like GIF, PNG etc. Windows 8.1 wants to take you to their app store.

Other formats like AI, SVG and EPS are just not supported by any version of Windows, I use Irfanview to view my images but in Windows 8.1 and if I try too resize more than one image at a time they all turn into a black image, if I resize a single image there's no problem so it's not a major hassle. It's never happened before and I would suspect Windows rather than Irfanview being the cause of the problem.

The beauty of Irfanview is the range of formats it can handle, check out the list.

I have the same issues, I'm hoping the Windows 10 upgrade will sort it all out, there seems too be a graphics handling problem with Windows 8.1 :upset:

You didn't have the problem or the need to use Paint before Windows 8.1 :upset:

[bump]

ps. I like to use IrfanView for PC's - it can do single images or batch processing of a whole directory

also has quite a few other useful tools. and its free for non-commercial use from www irfanview com

another [even easier] option is to simply display the image on your screen and then use the Windows
Snipping Tool (windows 7+) to simply grab the image and save it as jpg.

To keep under 800x600 your image will need to be about quarter of your screen (not full screen).

[edit] if a big screen just an image about the size of an old traditional photo or the new post input text box.
much better small images in posts than massive ones that are too large look at.

Darren it's great to see someone else using IrfanView, it's often overlooked because it's a free program :thumbright:

I need to use add-ons with my IrfanView too be able to read EPS & SVG files that I use for sign cutting and I'm having problems finding a decent add-on for the SVG files that will run with Windows 8.1, all Windows versions don't support either file, I have no problems with any other version of Windows running the SVG add-on only Windows 8.1, XP and Windows 7 are both OK.

What I have to do now is take the SVG files into CorelDRAW and convert them to EPS, it's the EPS format that I need to cut with.

Another free program I use is Inkscape, it's a great program along the lines of Adobe Illustrator and CorelDRAW. It's Raster to Vector tracing program is fantastic, far better than CorelDRAW, it is the best Raster to Vector program I've seen.

It traces in SVG, the only thing I use the program for is to convert JPG images into SVG files and then take them into CorelDRAW to convert them into EPS. I tried several other programs to do that same conversion over the years that I paid big money for and none of them performed, jagged lines, open paths, bits missing, you couldn't use the images or if you could use an image it took several hours to clean it up.

Inkscape has so much to offer as a free program, I would love too be able to use more of the programs features than I do but I've been using CorelDRAW since version 3 and did a small course on it back then, so I find it's easier to just use what I know rather than put the time in on learning another program like Inkscape.

https://inkscape.org/en/

I bought another brilliant program 3 or 4 years ago that I still haven't had the time to learn yet (Imagaro Professional Z)
