Colum,I remember one of of my former players who was a dynamic player, but needed to be a bit stronger and she was trying to gain 5-10 lbs of lean muscle. She was drinking extra protein shakes and working out. Mass builders like squats, bench, and power cleans. After 1 month, she had lost 1 pound! This was a young lady who was 107 lbs at around 5'4". I told her to write down everything that went in her mouth for the whole week. Surprise,-she was consuming about 1600 calories a day. She was training 4-6 times per week on the pitch, then working with the weights 3 additional times. She, like you needed around 5000 calories a day just to stay "even". Then add an additional 500 calories if she wanted to gain muscle. There a very good guide that will tell you exactly how any calories you need based on your weight and activity. Not knowing your activity level, I can't tell you exactly, but it probably closer to 3500 then your current starvation. I was 145 in high school. I'm an ectomorph, and was playing tennis 6 hours a day, so gaining has always been hard. I managed to get to about 165, but was very strong, particularly legs and core, which was great for the sport. Like someone mentioned, you need more carbs and lean protein. Sweet potatoes, brown rice, chicken breast, fish, and the shakes will help. make sure you always drink a shake right after working out, that's when your body needs the protein. Also, don't do lots of reps and cut the cardio to once a week. Stick with lower reps, higher weight, and you will gain muscle. You just have to give your body what it needs. Tax the muscles and provide them fuel, they'll get stronger. Don't work any body part more then twice a week, and rest at least 1 day per week. You can do abs and light cardio on your day off if you feel like your missing something.

That player, is still only 115lb, but she is playing professionally in Sweden. Still the best player I've ever coached in that sport.

I've started using my fitness pal, basically it's a calorie/protein/sugar tracker. With my height/weight/activity level, I should be eating 2750 calories a day, and with working out/excerise, it should be upped to 3250. I'm struggling to get that much.

I've been using the 5x5 workout for a while now, probably three times a week. Hopefully the results should be better once I'm eating enough to go with the training. I'm not feeling as tired as I was though.

I've got to really love scotch. A mate and I have tasting sessions of different scotches and good ones have magnificent flavours. Just having a limeburners local Albany scotch and water at the moment. Can't understand why I used to mix it with lolly water when I was younger

I bought in at their first release for $250 years back through a friend at Grove vineyard. Last time I checked they are selling first release Limeburners for $1000 a bottle :headbang: . Have no idea what it tastes like though :dontknow:

Also slowly collecting their full range of first releases since each first release bottle is individually numbered and my number is reserved just for meeeeee

Just a taste of their top stuff costs $50...... Oh and if you have a bottle of the original, I heard the distillery owner is trying to track them down and buy them back, I guess he got nostalgic about it, might be worth checking out what he will pay..

Bought my mate a bottle of Glenfarclays 30 year old for his 50th and unfortunately tasting it along side the limeburners, there was just no comparison against the 2 half bottles of different limeburners I had. But then of course they haven't been around for very long.

Funny really when you think that they made the stuff and left it there for at least 30 years before selling it.. Man that's a long term plan, imagine in any other business saying right, I think we'll make this product, then store it away and think about selling it in 30-40 years... Oh and we'll keep making more and more product, and we'll store that away as well... Crazy, but lovely.. :headbang:

You guys are sick. You can work out "that" body part as often as possible.

The 5 x 5 is a good mass/strength one. Just don't stick with it for too long. Change your workouts up and always keep adding resistance(weight) as soon as you can easily get the reps. Try a pyramid set or 2, and try a few negatives with higher weight. Obviously, when doing exercises with heavier weight to failure, you need a spotter or workout partner. The negatives sometimes will get you past a sticking point. I was never a great bench press guy...too long or arms and not too thick through the chest, but I was was stuck at the 220lb for a long time. Finally doing negatives for a few workouts forced something, and I was finally able to get to the 235=240 range. not too impressive , but at 170, respectable at least. But, you can kill yourself in the gym, and if you don't provide your body with the right nutrition, you won't see much results. That calorie estimate sound perfect. Add 500 to put on weight, subtract 500 to cut weight.

If your not doing squats and deadlifts, you need to. The hardest bodypart to train, but stimulates the most overall growth. The old saying Friends don't let friends skip Leg Day is true. I'm old and weak now, but when I was training and playing tennis, I could rep 300lbs. Legit bucket squats. I used to kill 200 lb plus pound guys in that exercise. They spent so much time on their chest and arms, they forgot half their body.lol The legs feed the wolf.

It takes a special kind of cruel to vent about struggling to gain weight.

I take comfort in knowing that more people like elephants than snakes. It's true. Honest.
