I've known Nate at Bright Agrotech for several years and when they asked me to write an article for their blog, I was more than happy to help them out. Here's some details as to how we start our seeds in a gravel wicking bed. This method is great for the GrowGrips and also their ZipGrow towers!

Did a trial run attempting to grow green beans in our GrowGrips. Considering they weren't designed for them, the plants did really well!

Do you sell your lettuce? Or just use it for at home?

We're preparing to start selling it to a local restaurant. I have a few friends that pay a couple of bucks for these bags too.

I realize maybe you were just demonstrating the tool and not your packaging process but i figur i would ask anyway.

Do you find that you you dont need to "crisp" ice bath the lettuce to keep it from wilting?

Is there a reason you leave the roots on vs cutting them off?

Couldnt you theoretically regrow the lettuce from the root stubs?

This variety stays crip without giving it a bath. It's why we leave the roots on.

It's easier to remove the entire plant then try to regrow it. When it regrows, it may not survive, and with the large amount of roots, many of them will rot since there is not enough leaf to utilize the roots. It just creates a mess in the DWC. Also if there is any disease that may start on the roots, you can get them out of the system and keep the young plants in there.

For everyone that follows my dome adventure, I'm going to be putting up a new larger greenhouse. I'll probably start another thread on BYAP as I progress, but here is the first bit to get things going. Thanks!

Hi Rob.

Best of luck with the crowdfunding.

What type of system are you planning?

I'm not 100% decided, but probably mostly DWC. A media bed and maybe some dutch buckets. I'll figure it out eventually. ;-)

I've made a change to the settling area of the mineralisation tank. It's been running great for the last month without having to perform any maintenance!

This is super exciting, especially the water sediment test results.

Plus we get to throw around a six-syllable word casually!
