20 in one go is a big enough session, I don't really want to do any more than that in a day... nor that for over 15 days straight!

The cooling tower might be fine for getting from 40C to 25C, and 35-40C days are when I need it, but I want to keep the water cooler than that, so they would not be useful, plus they use heaps of water, which I cant afford to waste, only having rainwater from the roof here. However, I do have plenty of electricity on long sunny days, which could run a refrigeration compressor.

Yeah not fun.

The other thing I didn't factor as that getting 400 fish and harvesting them at 400-500g is 200kg but if you don't really keep eating them once they get to 500g then the amount of fish you get is a LOT more than 200kg.

I would just build a walk in cooler with a 10,000 btu window ac and a coolbot controller. That should put you under 3 kWh. Lots of people I know on other forums use them for hanging deer. I know they can keep it at 37f when it's mid 80's out. Put the tank inside and make it RAS for the summer.

Thats what I've just done - Not walk in though - bascially a 3m x 1.4m x 1.2m high 150mmm EPS box with 2 IBCs, a RFF and MBBR. Though the plan for that is barra and heating it rather than cooling it. I think I'll need to exchange around 300L per week to keep nitrates low eneough. My calcs suggest a 200W heater should be enough, though I'll know if thats right in a few weeks - just cycling it at present....

Some may have not seen Matts chilly tank thread. He runs trout all year round with the help of a chest freezer.
