Got appx 300 new fish yesterday. About 220 large ones that went on 1 of the grow-out tanks, the others we graded out and added to another juvi and fry tanks. Checked water yesterday and everything was fine. Checked again this AM...fine again. I was cleaning MBBR using the bypass blower and after shutting air off and letting solids settle to bottom, I was supposed to drain out and turn the air back on. I did neither. Was late for work and ran off and left it. 5 hours later, I realized my mistake. Drained out sediment and turned air back on. Fed the fish...in hindsight, a mistake. Then checked water. Ammonia was a bit high-.25, but nitrites which have been at zero for the last 3 weeks was over 2. Going to monitor and do water change if needed. Obviously, no more food, until my filter builds back up.
If I hadn't have checked, and continued feeding at the rates I had been feeding, I could have had a major problem. When in doubt, stop feeding and check water. My new mantra. :D

Speaking of feeding. How are your new auto feeders doing?

Not good so far. I think the fitting and washers need to be adjusted. been so damn busy, I haven't been able to properly test them. They need to be secured in place and not hung. It's not that difficult, but does take some time. Will try and post pics.
