Cheers Dasboot, I'll keep you in the loop. It won't be anything fancy, just a media bed at the same height as the pond (+1 inch or so).
It'll be relatively lightly filtered but will only house a community of small native fish and will really only be an outdoor AP fishtank.

Measured it last night. 1.4m head height.
The riser is a 25mm (coming from a 50mm flow pipe. When I get all the figures I will put them up here.

The trick is to use a good quality pump I think. Try to get a good diaphragm one.

The airlift has changed since that last photo. I reduced the height a bit and added some 50L GBs

The 2 gbs on the right have scoria in them. (I have put more in the middle one) and I am testing the 3rd one for water quality. If it looks good, I will make it a little DWC. They are constant flood.

I want to add a butterfly type arrangement at the top of the airlift to help with water dispersion.

I am hoping that the matala in the vertical gbs and the scoria in the 50L gbs will be enough filtration for the system. At the moment I have around 15 goldies in the system, and will run on goldfish alone when up and running - thanks Colum for the suggestion - the kids would prefer to have pets than food.)

Any thoughts on this?

Ok. Tested the flow. Filled up a 10 litre bucket in 60 seconds. So 600 litres an hour at 1.4m head height. All this on a 40w
air pump.

Now I just need to try and improve the flow somehow.

You said you were running a one inch riser, try running 3/4 or even 1/2 riser and see what happens to the flow rate,or even if its possible run two small risers from the same non return valve.
I run an airlift in my system and by using two 3/4 risers i can pump 1500lph and supply the pair of DWCs with air from 35 watts, but i only have a 20 cm lift just a little bit different to your system.

I was thinking of putting a few pipes within a 50mm pipe and see if that helps. I will see if I can do that.
