curious how they plan to pull this off:
"foreseeing it brin(g)ing hundreds of jobs to the Wilmington"
Wish them the best of luck...sure hope they can pull it off.

The machinery in the news feed for the new farm seems very familiar. I seem to remember an Australian company engineer who built this contraption for lifting the Gbs to the top and letting them all get sun.

It would not work under cover, but I wonder if they have just used the machinery picture as a stock image or if they bought the equipment?

Time will tell.

By reading it, I think the aquaponics may just be an attraction for the main business which is the farmers markets(?) It may well supplement the aquaponic side

Thanks JT,

Boy they're great looking Channel Catfish and they look like they would have eaten a pound or two of fish feed in those 4 years.

Thanks JT,

What I should have also asked, was what do you think they weighed?

I was so impressed with their size the first thing I thought about was how long they take to grow too that large.

Thanks JT, awesome fish, your remaining bluegill would be please with the sale :D

They put my little Tandus Catfish too shame, I don't think they'll get the chance to grow anywhere near the size of your fish, my wife will have them on a plates as soon as she can.

It's not much different here. People grow aquaponics fish for different reasons.. however, if JT was growing them for food, we would probably want to harvest them at about 1.5-2lb after about 12-18 months. That is when (imho) they taste the best.. and their growth slows down and at 2-3 years as they enter sexually maturity.

It does depend on your temperatures how fast the channel catfish grow.
I usually get the 3-5" fingerlings here in central FL and I can have 3-5 lb channel catfish in only 12 months in my systems. There was one advanced channel cat that I kept for two years once and she wound up being over 10 lb but still tasted great.
