I for one would love it if the UN was scamming us all with an aim to world domination.

They hate it when people cut each others arms off, they think women are people, and they'd like us if we had blue skin. They probably even like aquaponics. They'd get my vote in a flash. Obviously as dictators, they wouldn't even read my vote, but I'm pretty sure they would at least recycle the ballot paper.

My lovely daughter had put down a $75.00 deposit for a room on the beach for us to stay in tonight and Sunday. My wife & daughter drive down there(90 minutes) and the motel owner tells them he "made a mistake" and overbooked. He then offers to "let us stay tomorrow for free." Really? How nice of you. Never, in 30 years of booking hotels, have I paid for a room and then not had it available when I arrived. His next offer was to pay for a stay at another hotel, on the mainland(no beach) and then we could come tomorrow. No thanks. We have a free weekend stay coming, but after that, I highly doubt that we will be back.

This is a motel where we booked 20 rooms when we got married for out of town guests, and where we have booked 1-3 rooms for the past several years. I assume the people staying in our room wanted to extend their stay, and he didn't have the balls to tell them the room was reserved? Really pissed.

One a positive note, I'm going to make another batch of hot sauce.
If i don't post for a while after our next beach weekend, you'll know that I'm in jail for assaulting an innkeeper.
Hell of a way to run a business.

Hold him down and put hot sauce in his eyes. Just kidding. I am glad that you have a place to vent. Now you can work on getting over it.

Haha. I'd say send him a bucket full of fish solids but that's such a waste!

Well, I certainly understand where you're coming from. I can't say I wouldn't be feeling the same. I got into it with a pharmacist the other day because they had the gall to try to rush me out of the drive thru when it was their own fault things were progressing so slowly (on the phone they said one thing, in person another). But perhaps this was an over sight by someone that works for him? Or someone really trashed a room? Either way he could handle it better.

You'd think they'd have a system in place to prevent double booking though. Seems a pretty obvious thing to do.

Make the sauce hotter than the hottest one you've made. Make the label say it's mild, and give it to the owner!

They are already underpaid.

Their's is a job that is easy to get. You just have to rock up. You don't even need to apply. If it's such a good deal, just do it.

The truth is, if your willing to work as hard as a politician does, there are a lot better paying jobs out there.

Seriously, how many hours a day do you think the average politician works?

I doubt there is even one state or federal politician who is in it for the money.

To everyone saying they are over paid, why are you saying it? what makes you think that? what are you basing it on?

If it's that they do stuff you don't agrees with, that's just because they are doing stuff that the majority agrees with.

If it's because you genuinely think they don't work very hard and don't have much responsibility, give me a name of one that you think is bad, and I'll talk to them, their staff, and the people in opposition to them politically, and see what they say. I guarantee everyone, even the people politically on the the other side of the fence will all say the same thing.

They work their butts off all the time.

I think people just like to dislike them. That being the case, there's little point is trying to convince anyone any different, but to say, if it's such a good job, just take it.

Maybe in Oz it is different. By the way asking a politician and those that work for them if they work hard. Like they are really going to say no we don't  This is more what it looks like here.

Accountability is a tough one.

The reason cops cant be charged with assault (in oz) is because if they could, they wouldn't arrest anyone.

Would you cut spending to health if the budget required it, knowing that if someone died (as they inevitably do) you would be sued?

That's an instant recipe for nobody running unless they always kept a private jet fuelled and running just in case.

For anyone, interested in this discussion, put forward an alternative, and someone/everyone will point out the flaws.

I think we're doing pretty well.

Nobody in my area is systematically cutting young men's arms off with machetes, so they all get a thumbs up from me. (unless you are from a culture where a thumbs up is an obscene gesture, in which case, they all get a wave)

there is always going to have to be limits to anything, people sue governments now and would continue to do that rather than suing a single politician, the accountability should be a criminal court sort of deal, not civil, much like happens now with corporates who do bad things, etc.

To a point if you are using aeration. After such a point the water is saturated and you are just wasting money making more bubbles.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh..............

Between crappy website hosters that seem to have everything redirecting, bloody wordpress that can't hack a small change editing a post without spitting the dummy and crashing the whole database... And then windows 8.1 with it's STUPID app garbage trying to control simple things like images.... Ahhhhhhhhhhh...

Been tearing my hair out for over 3 hours now and I've actually done nothing, all I wanted to do is start a WP post and upload some pictures... It shouldn't be this hard......!!!

Couple of aggravations

The old CALM (Cremate And Leave Maimed) are doing a controlled burn. I have no problem with that apart for the fact they pick the worst weather conditions to do it. The sky is a dirty brown; 1 day I could accept but this has been going on for al least 4.

The US postal service would have to be one of the most expensive in the world. I need a carby rebuild kit for my baby tractor, Satoh which is called a bison over there. The kit is approx AU $70 but postage is about AU $60. Lets face it it weighs *frack* all. I realise the US postal service loses a lot of employees to plane crashes on deserted islands and they become deranged; however postal charges are killing their online overseas business.

And while I am on it Microsoft; one of my computers an HP totally crapped itself; I rebuilt a new computer but because it was an OEM licence they won't register the software it as legit; *sigh*.
