I've just ordered 2400 Jewell strawberry mother plants. They will be transplanted into an irrigated field 40 feet by 400 feet (about 1/3 acre). See attached picture.

Usually we have some extra plants left over maybe 10 to 20 plants. I'm thinking a putting together a temporary setup without fish until I finish our sunken greenhouse in the old basement. The main media beds will be constant flood so I don't think that would work very well. Besides they are not in place right now.

Any ideas for a temp. setup? NFT? Tower? other? Alternative nutrient sources?

I do have a very active 55 gal barrel worm farm I could use for nutrients. Just use the drainage from adding too much water? or make a real worm tea? or......?

Any ideas

My oldest son felt sorry for the old man and decided to help put in plants this year. So he brought his wife and their 5 kids to help out. With good neighbors like Shawn steering the tractor, who needs GPS! And a special thanks to my daughter -in- law Angel, for taking pictures and taking her turn on the transplanter! BTW little Nate was very perplexed by all of it :dontknow:

With Big Nate and Angel supervising and keeping the kids focused I felt a little left out :?

I must be getting Alzheimers, I forgot to say how my wife and son Trent helped me get the kinks out of the transplanter the day before (Saturday).

Thanks MartinC!

It was fun watching the kids get into planting. I kept hearing when is it my turn?

Big Nate told the kids when he and his brother where growing up we didn't have a machine to put plants in the ground. "We" had to do every thing by hand" :upset:

I think he embellished a little on how actually bad he had it.

BTW the Mrs and I finished "washing in the plants" today hopefully to set them better. And of course Sam insisted on supervising us to make sure it was done right.
