Hi,

Some of my Koi flashing. And one Koi stays still in water with head down and tail up. I checked water quality and Ammonia and Nitrite are 0 PPM and Nitrates are 20 - 40 PPM.

I added 250 ml seaweed just a few days ago. Also I see dust in my pond water as dust enters the pond through air. I see layer of very fine dust particles on my pond liner as well out of pond. What is causing flashing? Dust or Seaweed? or anything else?

Or is this due to swim bladder problem?

Have a look at the referenced paper from DPI..
Mind you, you start to imagine diseases that aren't there..

Catch the "Flasher" and inspect for small white specs - like SALT specs.. ie.. possible ICH..

PS - DUST - consider that KOI are just exotic CARP, and they live in and cause the most turbid of water conditions.. I doubt that dust would be an issue.. but what is that dust.. nothing sinister , we hope..!

PPS - we assume that was Seaweed Extract.. was it a good brand

Thnx for replying.

I did check for white spots but found none.
Sea Weed is of Good Brand.
I shifted my fish in my home aquarium for a while and they immediately stopped flashing. Not a single flash in 6 hours.

We, collectively concern ourselves for all we do and especially add to our AP systems..
I just killed all my fish, (apparently) from electrocution, or more likely, nerve disruption..

I still concern myself for any commercial products that are intended for use in soil gardens .. a different environment to where fish are part of the process and more so, when you plan to eat those fish..

That the Koi are happy inside, is interesting, and makes me wonder if something within the AP system was irritating the fish..

Hi,

We are pure vegetarian here. So we won't be eating fish. I have two white koi which are looking very happy and fine. They don't care if I am near the tank, in fact they come on top when see me coz they have linked me to food. I have 4 juvenile koi which used to get scared of me but no longer now. All these fish are ready to eat from my hand as well. But one of my Koi which has red and black spots is around 6 inches long and flash. It's slow most of the time but swim very fast when she sees me.

Eating them is one thing.. and dead fish from toxic poisoning, is another..

I know there is a contradiction, and the old claim that throwing a penny in the aquarium is good, but I would think that many copper pipes, is a no.no.

I do hope others, more experienced will confirm..

Unfortunately we read so much and we dare not tempt fate, by rejecting other's experiences and expertise ..

I have no copper pipes. All pipes are PVC. I use purified water only in my tank. None of the other fish are showing these sign of problems so i have shifted the fish to my home aquarium and have added salt to 2 PPM to reduce stress. I also added General Aid medicine. And I don't see the fish up side down anymore. I think I will wait for a week and will see how it goes.
