Silver Perch seem like a friendly critter... At least until you start to understand some of the diseases that affect them..

I do hope the link works..

There is similar documents available for all native fish species. If you care for your fish correctly you can avoid disease.

The question "why bother" only comes to my mind when I see people with poorly designed systems and overstocking.

and most of them are self imposed by neglect, our neglect.. :support: So all akin to our fishy friend's problems..

Indeed a good read, and yes there are others in the series that need to be stored as reference material..

Just to know where they are, for the day when disaster strikes..

The thing that I found MOST interesting, was the ailments that were attributed to handling.. prompting the comment that sourcing healthy fish is also the buyer's responsibility..

It would be good to create a locked thread with links to these publications per species..
Locked so the thread is not trashed by trivia and the details lost..

Its all about lack of knowledge and lack of experience which causes fish diseases in an AP system.

I am just coming off a fish kill of over 200SP (50-70mm) and 40MC of similar size...
My system is clean, works well, water tests every second day, enclosed in a greenhouse and is a closed system...
aerators, filtrations, etc etc...... and I put it all down to not knowing what to look for when introducing new stock......I am now convinced the MC had ich" when I bought them, it then went to the SP in the 5,000lte tank and within 4-5weeks my entire stock was in serious trouble...Once again I didn't have the experience NOT to purchase the MC.....
I got the SP back in early December and another 20 in March from the same seller, had not lost one fish until I got the MC.
I now have 43SP and 3MC left, and may loose these by the end of this week..

my system was great, not a sniff of anything ever going wrong.

it's so so disappointing that my lack of knowledge caused this.
