Says I should feed my 30 40g/day, but I reckon they would eat a lot more. Will stick to the 40g for a few days and then check water levels

Sounds like my calculations are in order for variable amounts of fish. Remember that my calculations are drawn from available estimates only and should be used as a guide only. It would still be prudent to observe if your fish are not eating all food or indeed if they want more.

Perhaps someone with more knowledge around the relationship between feed and water quality can write me up some notes to add to the spreadsheet?

Just been searching for feed calculators for trout and stumbled across this thread. I used the spreadsheet calculator for 25 yearling trout ~20cm long at ~19oC and got 47 grams per day, which at a guesstimate is around 3 of my tight fistfuls, which is what they got this morning. Yesterday I gave them more than twice that much and they still wanted more, but my ammonia has risen again from ~0.1 to 0.5 and nitrite has come up from ~0.1 to 0.25 today. I will have a go at using the calculator for a while and keep a careful eye on NH3 & NO2. The trout seem to have grown quite a bit in the last week even though they have been on very short rations (1 tight fistful ~15 g/day) due to NO2 spike when I added them. I posted water test graphs from filling, through cycling, adding trout to now on my system thread yesterday.

Seems to be pretty close for my current situation:

~215 trout
length 11cm (estimated average, range from about 7 to 15cm)
Water temp 17C, Value = 4

Feed per day = 150g Yesterday they ate 145g pellets and 8g of ox heart.

In ~6 months time, lets say they grow to be on average about 500g each and 34cm long
215 trout
length 34cm
Water temp 19C, Value 1.4

Feed per day = 1.55kg

Looks like I'd better order some more pellets!

Murray Cod feed calculator- if temp <17C, don't throw in any food, it wont be eaten.
