I never thought of planting a white pansy in with the brassicas, what a great idea. I spent ages cutting out butterfly shapes from white icecream tub lids and stringing them up on fishing line. The caterpillar load was greatly reduced but not eliminated. For those out there wondering what we are talking about, the white cabbage butterfly prefers to lay eggs where there is less competition, so if they see another 'butterfly' already there, they will move on to a less crowded area.

I noticed a significant drop in caterpillars and damage after the white pansies started to flower... they will always play an essential role in all of my gardens

Thanks JimV,

i have been planting white pansies for a while and have noticed their effect. It wasn't until the other day have i actually watched the reaction of cabbage moth. I watched as one flew in and circled two flowering pansy plants, with a mass of flowers on each, and then flew off not landing once. it was amazing to watch and the sight had another guy there totally baffled.

very artistic indeed. Not sure what you are calling the "back rest," is, another piece of landscaping for the feature? Or is there a practical purpose for that wooden frame? Hehehe or do we just need to wait a few days. You've got an admirable pace to your craftsmanship

I think I remember you telling me about this when I bought a system off you, you pointed to some ugly neighbours be gone shrubs along the fence line and said something like, "Watch this space". Surely this is a 'neighbours be like 'Woah' project now' :)

The 'backrest' is part of the seating. The whole seating it will be covered in stained decking like this sketchup
