I think you are right. We need to be more flexible with our designs.

My simple system normally runs F&D, but when the toms grow the roots slow it down so it becomes CF. I take the bell off or it becomes constantly empty, What I should do is put on a shorter stand pie, as my ginger has rotted with its toes permanently in water.

I found some in the pantry that had started to shoot , so I put it just under the surface of the media. My first lot grew ell, but this latest lot got waterlogged, and the root growth all rotted. I shifted a bit of media and made a mound so it was above the water line, and it is growing again. Should have lowered the water table instead, would have been alot easier in hindsight....
