I have to say, great looking system!! My question is how did you come up with the idea for those siphons? I've never seen that style before. I've seen a T siphon, standard bell in GB with and w/o media guard, and I've seen U siphons. But yours is alien to me. Would you be willing to share how you made them?

Here you go (processing, should be ready soon)!

No worries, and good luck! The external bell siphon design makes cleaning the grow beds easy. Pull out bell siphon, drain water through bed to clean out gunk, then you're good to go!

Cheers!

Jackal,

I don't see that anyone has mentioned this yet but the pump you are choosing to use is way overkill. Usually pumps are sized to turn the FT over 1 time an hr. With your current setup you could turnover your FT 6 times an hr. Which unless you are setting up for a known large future expansion. Is just wasting electricity. Causing you to pay more monthly than required to grow your products. As for scaling down the list of pond fish to fit your system. For several reasons there is usually only 1 type fish, at a time, kept in backyard type system. Some of the larger systems can accommodate more varieties but they usually have controls in place so that they can isolate fish, if say they see a disease in one variety. Or other variables. With such a small single tank (relatively), and no way to isolate, it would not be advised.

Using 35 watt geyser pumps. One per grow bed. Six grow beds total. Plan on running each grow bed off of its own solar panel and battery. System has been operational for three years with tilapia and channel cats. Yes, could probably save a lot on energy, but the system is six way redundant and the fish have tons of air. This is a hobby system right now and not suitable for a commercial set up.

Jackal,

My last post proves that you should defiantly wake up BEFORE typing. Not being quite awake, I posted on something that I read on your initial page.

No worries, the system is a long way off from the initial design thoughts :)

Cheers!
