Wow thats a high mortality rate - need to make a cod muzzle so they can only eat pellets!... im almost tempted to put a small tank inline somewhere and just have 1 cod then - just for fun :)

These new trout can eat!! Last crop had to be coaxed to feed - these guys ravage the pellets! I moved them into the main tank a couple of days ago, didnt put em off eating at all. Last batch wouldnt eat for a day or 2 if i just looked at them too long.

Hi Dan, I just picked 100 up today but they are not eating yet. Funny you say that about last years trout - mine were exactly the same...look at them sideways & they wouldn't touch food. I still have over 20 of them so by the end of the season they should by huge (I hope).

Good luck with them - 20 carried over summer is a good effort! I bought 2mm pellets, but the little fellas are happy to steal bigboy's 7mm pellets!

Way cool! just lifted the lid on the yabbie mama tub, and there are masses of yababies! theres 2 in this pic, but damn they're quick! way too quick for my stupid i-camera. Funny that they have bright red claws as juveniles...

tooperang trout farm i think is about the only place these days isnt it? the fly fishers do a once a year sale but the fish are tiny and im not sure its really worth it.

It all depends on you point of view. For me getting them cheap and small is better. I get them in Sep - Aug each year and run them until Dec the following year. The smaller size makes them survive the summer heat without issues.

Also having two tanks helps.

what temps can the smaller fingerlings / fry handle?

The tank temps reached a max of 25.75C since December 2015 until now with a fatality. I currently have 200 in one tank but it is about time I split them into to tanks. Since I started with removing the prior years crop in December and only running with the smaller ones over summer it has work quite well as far as losses is concerned.
